Washu vs. Cornell/Brown/Columbia

My friend is thinking of transferring from Washu to either Cornell, Brown or Columbia. She is interested in international relations and environmental science. Based on the strength of the programs, which school would be the best choice for her?

google.com

If she can transfer, I wouldn't hesitate to go to Columbia.

Honestly though, she should just apply to all of them because transferring is inestimably difficult and being accepted to one of the three (even from WashU) might be quite a task.

Columbia is in an entirely different league from the other schools you mention.

Haha, what? Sure, there's a clear difference between Wash U and Columbia, but Cornell and Brown are nearly as good as Columbia, no?

Brown and Cornell are just as good, but have very different academic and social environments. It depends what you're looking for.

Wash U is a really good school, with really smart people.

I agree with Luke--apply to all 3, getting in will be touch.

brown hardly deserves to be in the ivy league.

Brown University - WikiCU, the Columbia University wiki encyclopedia

oh yeah, the columbia university wikipedia isn't biased o_o

^ that's real

oh, someone changed it to "Brown sucks because it has an open curriculum" when I clicked the link :|

***?? some girl scout brownie changed the whole wiki entry! u bastard!

No I saw the same thing incognito, I meant "that's real, I'm sure the CU wiki will be biased towards other schools."

but seriously. Columbia is in way other league from cornell or WashU. brown is just a little bit behind Columbia.

But seriously, Columbia is in New York! The kinds of opportunities available to you in such a cosmopolitan city is not available at Brown, WashU or Cornell.

Plus, Columbia is definitely a better place for international relations.

how is brown a little behind columbia? the whole course structure is like CU's electives- you either pass or you fail.... I dont get it. do they even have a GPA?

Wash U is tied with Columbia in the USNews rankings. It's quite a good school in its own right.

I rather doubt the question is based on seeking a better-reputed school or one which will offer better opportunities. It's probably just a culture-fit thing. In which case, we can't answer that until we know more about the person seeking to transfer. These three schools are very different places to be and different people will feel comfortable at different ones.

"Wash U is tied with Columbia in the USNews rankings"

nope, not anymore at least, we're 8th they're 12th.

Glaringly biased criticism of a good school does nothing to boost Columbia's reputation. It just demonstrates your insecurity.

Brown is an excellent university. I think we sometimes forget that there are plenty of universities, that don't rank at all, that produce successful individuals and to put down any university in the top 10/25/50/100 is ridiculous. When we are old and gray, I hope graduating from Columbia is not the most significant achievement we have to call upon.

oh get over yourselves- im not trying to put down brown nor am i insecure crooked. i know what columbia produces and what brown produces. theyre not equals.
