I am having a lot of trouble deciding if I want to apply to Washu or Duke ED. I am currently a senior in high school and will be sending out applications in about a month. I have an interest in business, spanish, and economics. I am especially interested in hearing your responses on whether a liberal arts business education at duke would/wouldn’t be better than taking classes at Olin. I know at Duke I would probably have to take economics and the markets and management certificate to pursue business. Also, I’d love to hear your view on flexibility of taking courses at both schools since I have a lot of interests and do not want to be limited by not being able to take classes in multiple fields or schools. I don’t really care about d1 athletics, although I do care about close-knit communities where I will be accepted and have no issue making friends. Also, if you would like to share your opinion about other characteristics of both schools (i.e. social life, location, study abroad programs) that would be great.
WashU has a very flexible curriculum that allows you to take whatever courses you’d like.
I would suggest visiting both universities to see which one fits you best. They are both great but only you’ll know which one is better for you. Good luck!!
Echo @newjersey17 – both are outstanding bur definitely a bit of a different vibe. We have a very good family friend who just graduated from Olin this spring. He studied both Spanish and Mandarin and spent either summers or a semester in Spain and in China. I believe he also took economics classes, He has a great job working in Miami for Carnival Cruise Lines. I remember his parents saying that he really appreciated Wash U’s flexibility. Check them both out!
