WashU vs Emory vs Georgetown for Neuroscience

Looking for some feedback: planning to major in neuroscience with goal of going to med school between WashU, Emory, Georgetown. Money is not an issue.

take your pick- you are going to have to make this decision on non-academic factors, in my opinion. if you change your mind on med school, which one would you want to be at? Emory is beautiful, but so is Wash U, I hear. I think Emory has more economic diversity.

I personally wouldn’t choose G-Town over those unless I really wanted to be in DC (understandable) or I was into politics. but of course it’s a great place. the dorms and food will be better at the other schools unless you plan to eat out in DC a lot.

this is a nice problem to have.

Assuming they are equally affordable I’d choose the university that appeals to you the most.

Thanks. Waitlisted at UPenn, Vandy. If by any miracle it comes through would you say UPenn or Vandy is better in terms of student life and social scene … I guess they all offer good pathway to med schools

WashU & Emory much better than Georgetown.

those 2 schools wouldn’t change my answer.

I think Penn kids know how to have fun but I get the sense there is bit more of an intensity there. That might just be based on the kids we have seen go, but it wouldn’t be my 1st choice for my kid unless I felt the name on the CV would matter (which it won’t for medicine).

Vandy offers legit D1 sports, if that matters.

Anyway I wouldn’t really factor Penn and Vandy in until it is an issue.

I have a kid at Emory and she has loved her time there. she does a lot of Atlanta things. she is not pre-med.

These are peers overall. I would choose based on fit. Housing/food are (by repute) better at WashU and Emory than they are at Georgetown.

100% disagree. Can’t imagine choosing Emory or WashU over Georgetown - much better school and DC hands down over Atlanta or St Louis! My d made this exact choice and had an amazing time in Georgetown both academically and socially. Can’t imagine where the other posters are coming from on this. Go and visit.

I also wouldn’t consider Vandy. Maybe UPenn if it came through. Agree food and dorms better in the others most likely if that is a big factor for you. It wasn’t for us and kids don’t eat much college food anyway in my experience.

My d who went to Georgetown wasn’t premed but tons of her friends were and they all landed at amazing med schools

Interesting take. For premed, Georgetown would be the bottom of this list for me. Now if the OP were interested in politics or related, my answer would be different. Especially if GT SFS.

I like being surprised by a post. Thanks!

Edit: OP, I agree that any of these excellent schools will give you the opportunities needed for med school. So which one do you feel is a better fit for the next four years?

Tried to add to my post that as a STEM major many of my d’s closest friends were premed and all ended up at really elite med schools.

If you get into UPenn or Vandy off the waitlist and (all are equally affordable) I would STILL go to whichever university you prefer!

Of you are looking for the more social atmosphere, as your suggested with respect to your preference for your waitlisted schools, I would definitely chose Georgetown. Social scene is more subdued at Emory and Wash U, as is athletics.
