WashU vs. Emory vs. USC vs. in-states

•I’m a guy from northern California and I’m having trouble picking schools
• Hoping to follow the pre-med track and major in a public health related major and minor in business (finance if possible)
•My reaches were USC, WashU, Emory and I was accepted to all off them
• COA: WashU 35k
USC 30k
Emory 24k
•My scores were pretty average for these schools or a little below for (washu) so I’m not sure that going to these schools would be the best for my gpa.
• I visited usc and I loved it if that helps
• I also got great merit scholarships and grants from in-states such as ucsb, lmu, and Santa Clara. The cost for these would be 10-15k.
• Also USC, WashU, LMU, and Santa Clara have my preferred major if that helps
•Any insight is definitely appreciated before I set up a trip to Emory !!

Emory is literally next door to the CDC and has a global health major which actively encourages students to work in the world class facility or with professors who do relevant work. It’s quite common to major in economics or just take the prebusiness courses without actually going to the b-school.

Oh that’s great!! I didn’t even know that major was available at Emory.

We visited Emory this week with my S. In a nutshell, the weather was great, the campus was gorgeous, the facilities were pristine, and the students seemed intelligent and driven. But…how do I say this?..we didn’t see a lot of fun on campus during our visit. Didn’t seem like a party school. Definitely not a sports school, if that is a factor for you. But Emory is well ranked and would be the more affordable option for you, amongst the 3 elite schools where you were accepted. I would definitely visit if I were you. Good luck.

If you want a school with tons of school spirit and Great academics, go USC
If you want to go to too a sports school, go Emory
Wash U is highly overrated on these forums and on top of that, it would be then the other two

Do you like the low cost schools? Saving money in undergraduate can be helpful when you are facing large medical school costs.

Emory has parties and many students go to them. It’s not a party school like UGA but it’s not giving BYU a run for its money. Also there are a ton of things every day on campus ranging from prominent speakers to volunteering to intramural sports. The only thing a student won’t find is a football game sponsored by Pepsi.

Tough one, but if you want to go to med school, you have a lot of debt ahead of you. Probably you should seriously look at the cost for undergrad. $40,000 for one of the ones you mentioned vs $120,000 for USC or $140,000 for WStL makes good math sense. Congrats to you.

Thank you guys for all your help, I’ve visited all the schools except emory, which I will be doing this weekend. I really liked the vibe I got when I visited USC,they really made you feel at home and it seemed like they had a work hard play hard mentality which is great. UCSB and LMU had beautiful fun campuses, but I am afraid they not give me the same opportunities as USC and Emory.
