WashU vs. Northwestern (Any advice appreciated)

Hello all, with the decision deadline now just around the corner, I have narrowed down my school choices to Northwestern University and Washington University in St. Louis. It goes without saying that I am grateful to have been given admission offers by both such great schools. There are a few things that make choosing between the two so difficult for me.

First is that I am hoping to major in economics. It appears that Northwestern overall seems to have a stronger undergraduate economics program than WashU’s College of Arts & Science. However, as an international student I will have to pay the full price for Northwestern($70k/yr) if I choose to enroll, whereas WashU is offering me an honorary scholarship covering full tuition ($50k/yr) and thus reducing my WashU cost down to $20k/yr. I am hoping to attend a school that offers an overall rewarding experience (academically, socially, etc.) and with the highest value per money. Would really appreciate any and all suggestions/comments!

OF COURSE go to Wash U then. Hands down.

Finances aside I would’ve recommended Northwestern, but in this case I think WashU makes more sense. WashU is a great school.

Wash U due to the money.

Thanks for all your comments! WashU beats Northwestern in terms of finances, no doubt.

I’m still curious to see however if there’s any case to made for Northwestern even with its higher costs.

No. Northwestern is not worth $200k more unless your parents are billionaires.

Wash U given the large cost difference. Even if Northwestern were the better fit, as long as you at least like Wash U (and there’s a lot to like…), save the $200,000.

Make sure the $ at Wash U has no strings attached (minimum GPA to renew yearly, etc). If not, as above, unless your family has the resources to not find $200k a stretch, I’d go with Wash U.
