in general, which university is harder to get into?

if applying ED, which university is harder to get into?

*i note that while washu has a lower acceptance rate, northwestern is more known for its academic quality

Northwestern: 34% Acceptance Rate
WashU didn’t release it’s ED acceptance rate.

I suspect that WashU is harder to get into because ED rates often mirror RD rates.

Your statement “northwestern is more known for its academic quality” is debatable.

see i really want to apply ED to washu, but the acceptance rate is so low…
on the other hand, i definitely like northwestern, and though not as much as washu, it has its advantages. its acceptance rate is higher for a better renown university too.

if i apply ED and don’t get into washu…well i dunno…i think i’d regret not applying to northwestern and possibly getting in (if anything, i’d have a better chance).

any opinions?

These are 2 very similar schools. I am an NU alum and very familiar with WashU. ED to the one you prefer most.

Do you have any hooks at either, e.g. legacy/other family ties? Wash U seems to appreciate that, they sent me a letter before I got in mentioning my parents “special relationship” with the university.

sadly no hooks

but i decided i like washu too much… i’m applying ED

but hey do you guys think washu doesn’t release ED acceptances rates because

Was under the impression that Northwestern is a more selective school, but this is just based on my impression of my friends’ college rejections/acceptances so don’t quote me on this.

More people from my school got waitlisted or rejected from Wash U than from Northwestern, but that translates to 4 vs 6 people attending out of 880. Basically, they’re both really selective. Wash U can be weird about their data, and are notorious for waitlisting over denying, which both feed the rumor mill about iffy practices. Still, Wash U does love demonstrated interest, and ED is a good way to show interest, so it’s likely that ED should be a higher rate.

You can’t go wrong with either school. My final decision was between the two and Cornell, and I waffled for weeks. Wash U won because they paid for a plane ticket to fly out and visit :)
