WashU vs. UPenn

After visiting WashU this weekend, I really fell in love with the campus. However, it seemed like there wasn't much to do on a thurs/fri night while at Penn I have heard thats not a real problem.

I want to go to medical school, and these schools are tied for number 3. so that doesnt help. I wont get a chance to visit penn, so i have to decide base on what I read and hear about that school.

I love how WashU dorms are so big, and the food is amazing. and class sizes are small. how does penn compare to that? are classes teached by TA's? Is there an intense grade curve?

How Philly in terms of things to do for students?
How are dorms? (hallway or suite style for freshman)

If I am someone who wants the kind of work hard, play hard environment where should I go?

Where are you from?

Actually, in the latest US News ranking (just out this week), Penn Med is #2, and WashU is tied for #4:

[Research Rankings - Best Medical Schools - Graduate Schools - Education - US News and World Report](http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-medical-schools/research-rankings)

Not that it matters in any way–both medical schools have stellar reputations, and the difference in ranking is meaningless. And the ranking of medical schools shouldn’t really affect your choice for undergraduate school, in any event.

Philly is a terrific city for college students–one of the largest college populations in the country. It has LOTS more than St. Louis in terms of culture, night life, restaurants, etc., and the Penn campus is only 10-20 blocks from most of that. PLUS, Philly is a short train ride from New York City (hour and a half) and Washington, D.C. (2 hours), and the Penn campus is only about 5 blocks from the train station.

I’ll leave it to others to answer your other questions. :)

I would choose UPENN without question. Also, when you visited WASHU did you go to downtown St. louis? Did you see the neighborhoods?. In all honesty, I believe St. louis to be a dump. High crime, high poverty, etc.

Both are great schools. Just do more research about the programs, academic and extracurricular, talk to people who go to each school. I would suggest that you visit Penn. I was accepted ED and had already spent time on campus, but going back just showed me again every reason why I applied early.

I can’t pay my way to visit so I don’t think I can. and Im from Gainesville, Fl.

“I believe St. louis to be a dump. High crime, high poverty, etc.”

And West Philly is a place with low crime rate? Dont kid yourself. When I got my acceptance package from Penn, the first thing that struck me was the crime booklet that was included in it. UPenn is located in a more dangerous area than WashU is. St Louis is more dangerous than Philly, but WashU is a very closed campus, so it is very safe. Furthermore, the dangerous part of St. Louis is the eastern side which is across the Mississippi river. So, if you’re making your decision based on which one has lower crime rate, you should go to WashU. But making a decision based on that is just plain stupid. I have faith in a person who got into both Penn and WashU. You should be smart enough to not put urself in bad situations.

Crime shouldn’t be an issue. Not much experience with WashU but Penn’s security is fantastic. The campus is open but you definitely don’t see shady characters around at night.

Both Washington U and Penn have similar academic reputation and similar selectivity.

HAHAHAHA come on!!! Gugupo bring on all the Penn vs. lower school threads and I will shut you up! Penn is by no means similar to washington university at st.louis, friggin ■■■■■■ bring facts and I will shut up!

everyone, look at gugupo’s posts so that you can see how he is full of ****!
