WashU Waitlist Class of 2026

Could you explain why they may lose people on 5/15 or 6/15 didn’t peeps already commit to schools may 1 or something?

I recently chatted with a admissions officer saying there were only 300 waitlist spots. does this sound legit? anyone wanna confirm?

They may lose people in May or June because someone enrolled on 5/1 at WashU may get off one of their waitlists and choose to go elsewhere. Some people are also internationals who may decide to enroll abroad. Others may accept and then decide to do a gap year. Someone’s financial circumstances may change and they can no longer attend. There could be family reasons or even a death. Lots of reasons.

The entire process is iterative too. They may have 50 spots they offered before the 5/1 deadline. They give people a few days to decide and not everyone will accept. So they’ll need to go back and see which holes remain empty and offer those spots up to another round of maybe 20 kids on 5/15.

Regarding the AO saying there were only 300 WLers. I find that very hard to believe. They admitted fewer, so the did get more selective. Presumably fewer of the next 2000 students they offered a WL spot to would accept this year vs prior years. In prior years, maybe 1200 accepted. This year they were expecting 1000 maybe they are a little short of that. The only way I can see only 300 being on the waitlist is if they started with 900 and made offers that only one in 3 accepted that covered 200 spots. Then 300 WLers would still remain. That seems doubtful though.

Is there a chance they’re done taking people off? Its been a couple weeks of steady movement and nothing this week

I really hope not! I’m still hopeful!!

For those of you who got off the waitlist, did you just send LOCI via portal? Any follow up email is needed?

I guess you also commented the same on reddit. Is it like true because that seems really less?

Also, I haven’t heard any movement on the WashU waitlist for a few days. Did anyone else contact them more recently?

I talked to an admissions offer like 4-5 days ago and she said it. I was hoping for someone to confirm but so far nobody has. I also haven’t heard any waitlist movement recently.

Has anyone applying to engineering gotten off the waitlist?

I haven’t heard of anyone getting off the waitlist for engineering since the beginning.

My son sent his LOCI to his admission counselor a few weeks after being placed on the wait list. He then sent an email update in late April with info about recent awards, achievements he has had since submitting his original application. My nephew is also on the wait list and we encourage him to send a quick email saying he is still interested and Wash U is a his top choice. It cannot hurt right?!

Thank you for the information. Congratulations.

So, I guess they are done with waitlists?

I’ve heard of no one getting off for many days.

It’s pretty likely that the early stages are done. There could be some summer melt they will need to address. Also consider that this is commencement week. So much is going on at school right now and it’s all
hands on deck. If they are mostly done with the WLs but still have a few needs to address, I can see them postponing until next week.

I wrote an email asking about the status of the waitlist. Here’s the reply I received:

“The Admissions Committee is working diligently to review applications. Applicants will be notified when decisions are released.”

Does a qualification for national olympiads can help at this point?

Well, there it goes: (email from admission officer)

“It is unlikely we will admit more students from the waitlist and hope to let all students know a final decision by June 15th.”

I don’t know how I am supposed to feel about that…

“Thank you for your email and interest in WashU. We appreciate your patience as we continue to assess our enrollment needs. Our class is currently full and it is unlikely we will admit more students from the wait list. When we formally close the wait list, we will communicate to all students who are on it. Though we don’t have a precise date by which we will do this, we expect it will be in the next few weeks”
