Hello
I was accepted into ED of Washu just 2 days ago, and I was wondering how is Washu's financial aid. My father is unemployed right now and he's basically the only main source of income. I put 40k~ as the estimated amount of income for 2010, provided that my Dad is able to get a job again. My brother and sister both go to college, and my parents pay for most of their costs (although my siblings try to help).

So under these circumstances, what would Washu provide?
I was told at an orientation that they would do their best to allow the student to be able to afford the education. So if my family contribution is $0, what happens?
Am I gonna be backed up on loans to pay off later?

i heard from current students at washu that the school is really good about giving financial aid, so you should definitely be getting an aid package

Yep, Wustl’s financial aid is really pretty good. If your family makes less than 60k per year you can be guaranteed they’ll replace any loans in your aid package with grants that don’t have to be repaid, although there’s no guarantee on how they’ll evaluate your EFC. (they do offer optional loans to cover whatever is left of your EFC, though, assuming your EFC is non-zero)… but if they estimate your EFC to be $0, $0 is pretty much what you’ll pay. :)

hi! I am from Asia. i would like to know if washington uni is generous in giving financial aid for international students? will it hurt my chance if i apply for financial aid?

I think the system is basically the same whether you’re an international or not - I’d try getting a projected EFC from the “CSS Profile” or the online Fafsa calculator (there might be something else that you’d need to turn in to actually apply for FA as an international, but the online estimate should be all you need at first).

If your EFC is 0 or thereabouts, it’s probably not worth it to ask for financial aid and hope they’ll have a 5k scholarship lying around, unless you have special circumstances that you can explain to them. If you need the money though, I would definitely apply for financial aid — it’s not much of a factor at all in determining whether or not people get in.

yes. i need financial aid but if it hurts my chance, i would not apply for aid but i would apply for other scholarships in my country. so will it hurt my chance if i apply for aid?

YES it 100% hurts your chances if you apply for aid. (for internationals. US citizens who dont know anything about intll admissions please refrain from commenting)
