ok, so we misunderstood eachother.
The 2010 decisions that you glanced at were RD. ie, there were waitlists then.
What people are talking about now in this thread you are posting in is 2011.
Which is why I was confused.
But then, in response to your opinions about the rejections, just think of your hypothetical response.
Say you get rejected.
Are you really going to go online and scream to the world, "hey! Guess what! I got REJECTED!".....I think not.
So that could explain why so many of the posts are accepted/deferred (for the 2011ers, ie the ED), and accepted/waitlisted (for the 2010 RD thread).
And actually, while there may be the chance that it is a "game of waitlists".....the class of 2010 is the largest yet. Normally WashU admits more than they can possibly accept, bc let's face it, Harvard and Princeton and Yale and the other Ivy's have more name recognition so traditionally people chose those schools if they got in over WashU....now we're starting to see a reversal in the trend. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just presenting my opinion : )

The reason why nobody got off the wait lists last year was not because of some "game" but because more people enrolled then was expected. There were, i think, 100 freshman who had no place to stay until the university made some agreement with the upperclassman for them to move into apartments. People get off of wait lists if the freshman class isn't filled, and last year, it definitely was.

yes! thankyou for making it sound clearer. I know I failed.
And also, sorry to everyone for cluttering this thread...it should be the place where everyone's like "yay! I got into WashU"....only it's turning into a mini-debate. Sorry guys!
And congrats!
And good luck to the people who are deferred/rejected!

quick question--
there are no waitlists for ED?
didn't the letter we received say something about the process for being waitlisted?

oh......I'm sorry.....I just assumed there wouldn't be waitlists for ED.....I am really sorry....
So maybe there are waitlists for ED? Or maybe are they just explaining the process in case it happens to you when you get put into the RD pool, and are perhaps waitlisted then? I'm sorry I made the assumption though.
When I was in the application process last year, I only appplied EA (nonbinding) to one school, got deferred, and was pretty sure there wasn't such a thing as a waitlist at that point.... I'm sorry that I carried over this idea to a different school, because it does look like maybe WashU /is/ different. lol
Anyways, I'm glad I'm here. : )

Boo21, I do apologize for coming off the way I did in my post. I just get a bit angry when people say the same thing over and over again, especially when its false and has been disproven before. I accept your apologies, as I hope you will do mine

no prob man, I enjoyed the heated discussion :)
anways! Congrats everyone!

my high sch is private but they don't rank ppl whatsoever, except for those that get lotsa As. clearly i wasn't one of them, ever... however, my commonapp essay shld be good in the admission officers' eyes. i did spend a great deal of effort on it, and somewhat compromised my local exams. it's worth the effort though, never ever thought i could get in... fantabulous! oh yes, my fin aid package(it's actully a scholarship, partial) came with all those letters, covered up 2/3 of the tuition.i was still troubled with my RD essays a few days back(i hate crafting stuff abt myself!), but now all's over so quickly. i guess i shld be one of the last few to receive the letters. so all the best to those who weren't accepted, i sincerely hope we r all able to find a place of our choice! :D

You seem like a good candidate for WashU. Top colleges are just difficult to get into nowadays, so don't give up. If you have supplements that show your multi-faceted/ talented nature, do send them in. I wish you the best of luck!
