WASPs at Princeton

Are they everywhere? Do they dominate? Wondering....

Lol no they’re not everywhere. No they don’t dominate. And most of them are cultured/polite enough to tone down their waspyness. Have you been reading This Side of Paradise or something?

no… I’m just imagining a lot of white guys from Princeton High walking to Princeton… I’ve had enough WASPiness at JSA and Model UN conferences

Do you have a distaste for white anglo-saxon protestants or the wealthy?

I have a distaste for neither. I just want to know if they are the majority at Pton.

They are not.

Who is the majority then?

YASP is all over. Yellow Asian Super Performer!

Who really cares?

Seriously, I don’t know why people say WASPy as if it’s an insult. They cannot help their background any more than you can. I mean, basically every person at Princeton will be there because they are brilliant, engaging, and creative people. Does it really matter about anything else?

I’ve been to a ton of JSA conventions, and even though I agree that the MAJORITY may be “WASPy” (even though I still think there was a lot of cultural diversity) they were all AMAZING people!

C’mon. Give WASPs a break.

From a social evolutionary standpoint, WASPs are definitely superior. You should only be too happy to be able to bask in their presence.

I’m probably using the term wrong… I mean more of stuck-up rich white males who are overly horny and extremely rude.

Would anyone say that there are more Pton then at other Ivy League schools? I somehow get the feeling other schools are more diverse…

There are rude and horny people at every college. I don’t feel that Princeton is dominated by them. And even if it was, no one forces you to befriend them, so you hang out with your friends and everything goes along swimmingly.

The WASP stereotype is terribly outdated for all of the Ivies and there are only small differences in ethnic diversity among them. Each of them either reflects the U.S. population or has a higher percentage of minorities than exists in that population as a whole. Here are the most recent numbers.

Total % of Undergraduates Who Are American Minority (U.S. News & World Report)

43% Columbia
41% Harvard & Penn
40% Princeton & Yale
38% Brown
37% Dartmouth
35% Cornell

Total % of Undergraduates Who Are International (many of whom are non-Caucasian) (U.S. News & World Report)

10% Harvard & Penn
9% Columbia & Princeton
8% Cornell & Yale
7% Brown
6% Dartmouth

Total % of Undergraduates Who Are Either American Minority or International

52% Columbia
51% Harvard & Penn
49% Princeton
48% Yale
45% Brown
43% Cornell & Dartmouth

In terms of African-American students, Princeton was recognized in 2006 by the Journal of Blacks in Higher Education as the best in the Ivy League (and third best in the nation) for attracting Black students and faculty.

One month ago, Princeton was recognized by “Hispanic Magazine” as the second best college in the nation for Latinos. The previous year it had been ranked first.

Finally, some of the WASP stereotype of all the Ivies comes from a time long ago when most of their classes were filled with the graduates of the major prep schools in the northeast. The Ivies themselves now take a far higher percentage of their students from the public schools and even the prep schools have become far more diverse both by gender and race.

Class of 2010 % of Students From Public Schools

61%----Princeton
54.4%–Yale

Thank you!

Beautifully always helpful PtonGrad! Thanks!

Well said, kwu and pink001
Funny how one can get a free pass by using the term " WASP" in a negative light, yet most other terms to describe an ethnic or religeous group would be smacked down in no time by many.

Not that your post wasn’t helpful, PtonGrad, but I just am disappointed that Native Americans are always left out of the “diversity discussion” at colleges…we do exist.

So do Jews, but we don’t complain. Dpattz, Native Americans are a very small minority that are extremely well represented at any of the top flite schools. Native Americans make up less than 1% of the country population, while making up 2.7% of the Stanford student body, 1% of the Princeton body, 1% of the Harvard body… you won’t be alone. I’ve yet to see a popular ranking that shows numbers of Jews, who are a minority, granted not necessarily an ethnic one.

Okay, I understand you, BS. However, i have a question regarding how Natives are viewd in the application process…if they are seemingly “over-represented” at some schools, why do many (if not all) colleges consider us an “under-represented minority”? I mean, I had a chances thread on CC and somebody even said, “people, keep in mind that she is part of the most under-represented minority in the US.” I even just got a scholarship from UW-Madison that was specifically for URMs. I just don’t get this…do you have more knowledge of this?

how do you observe over horniness?
