I'm an international student and I lived in U.S. for 5 years..came from Korea with no prior english....obviously my verbal score sucks.....

SAT I - 780M, 570V...but I retook it in october, expect verbal score to go up to 630~650.....
SAT IIs - 790 IIC, 740 Chemistry, Writing 650+ (in november)
good ECs, recommendations, lots of volunteer.....
play cello....I've been going to Juilliard pre-college since 9th grade.....will send my CD with application....
Essay about someone who has a disability and how she affected me....
another Essay about an Orange....(there is a story how orange impacted me)
Am i wasting my money and time for harvard???
do you think my verbal score will automatically get me a rejection letter???? because i'm really worried about my SAT score....it's not my fault that I can't break 650 in verbal.....so.. do I have 0% chance???

in regard to your scores, i'm in a similar situation myself. for me, everything looks alright expect my math, which was 620 the first time (i'm doing it again and expect it to go up). they won't reject you on one below-700 score if every other factor goes in your favour. go ahead and apply.

bump........

i would say...you never know

but i would also say...very slim chance

If this is your dream school, by all means apply. But kids are turned down by Harvard with your profile and perfect test scores, so be aware that the chances for these top schools are truly small.

I do want to tell you that the attitude that it is not your fault that your verbal score is low is really not a helpful way to look at things. I know many, many Korean students who started English much later who have gotten very high verbal scores. It is not going to be a mitagating factor that you are not native to the language, I can assure you.
