Hello. I'm a freshman at a school that doesn't have the major i decided that i want. I'm most likely transferring next year, but thats still half a semester away, and right now i feel like im just going to pointless classes, except for one that will credit towards my major.

I want to go into meteorology. My school now doesn't have anything that remotely resembles that. I have my new school picked out, but what can i do to at least help make my time here more valuable?

I did order a meteorology textbook. I'm going to read it, then order the math and engineering counterpart, to try and educate myself so im prepared for when i step into the curriculum at my new school.

Even so, is there anything else i can do? Right now i just feel like im wasting my time!

Thanks!

Your GPA is gonna carry over. Even though these classes aren’t for your major, they’re still for your GPA and therefore just as important as the ones you’ll take at your new school. Even if they’re a waste.

Thats not true at 99% of schools LoonLake, grades and GPA does NOT transfer to most places, only the credits.

dantheman-- Remember, your new school will want to make sure that you are a good student before they accept you. Treat this semester as if you are trying to convince the adcoms at your new school that you are worth their investment-because that is what you are doing. If you blow off this semester you might not get in at your new school.

Did you already apply? If so did you get a decision?

Well, even if you’re not taking major credits, almost every school still has a required gen ed program. Find out what kinds of general courses are required at the school you’re transferring to and try to take their equivalents at the school you’re at now. That way, when you actually get to the new program, you’ll have more time in your schedule for major stuff or to add a minor. Just don’t think of this as wasted time. It’s only your freshman year, and most people don’t figure out what they want to major in until much later.

I have applied but haven’t been admitted yet. I’m not too worried about it though. It’s a State university that accepts a vast majority of applicants. I sent them my hs transcript which has a 3.6 gpa on it and a college 3.2 (rough first semester trying to adjust).
It kinda stinks because I can’t add classes I need.I’ll probably have to take summer classes at a cc near home to get math out of the way
