Watch for the Over-Refund

I just checked Wolverine Access, and found that one of my D's merit awards was refunded to her, instead of being applied toward the balance owed on her account. So now it says there is a past due amount, and tomorrow she will be refunded the scholarship. It makes no sense to me, but it happened, so I wanted to point out to those getting refunds, that you should check WA to make sure that all your payments were made, before committing the funds elsewhere.

Now I am just hoping that they don't add a late fee to the account.

Something similar to this happened to me last year. I noticed I had a balance on my account, having not gotten any notification of it in my email or anything, and I couldn’t figure out what the charge was for. I called and they said they had no idea but that I had to pay it. At one point they thought one of my stafford loans was canceled, but financial aid said it was not. I didn’t pay it right away because I was trying to figure out what happened, and a week later I got a check for the exact dollar amount they were saying I owed them. So I deposited it, wrote them another check, and sent the money right back along. I was never able to figure out what on earth they did. It’s really important to be watching your charges as they come in over WA to make sure they are not doing anything wrong. The university is not above making mistakes, or just plain not doing things rationally like in the OP.

I think you have to be late for a certain number of days before they assess a late fee, but I could be wrong. I seem to remember being a few days late last year because my private loan process wasn’t’ finished yet.

Was this the Industry-Sponsored Award in CoE? Seems that they disburse it a bit late for some reason and refund it to us directly…

i noticed my $650 of ACG disappeared(tried calling to bug the OFA about it) but it turns out that $2000 worth of the SMART grant was credited to my acc cuz im no longer sophomore standing, so im pleasantly surprised :)
