Watch out, it's an admissions counselor!

Don't apologize to that rule nazi....

**** THIS THREAD UP

Scrub, I'm sorry, we are actually sending viewbooks to international basics this week. So, we do send some materials, but not applications. I hope you like the viewbook!

Let's get this thread back to its original purpose, which was asking questions that I could answer for the good of mankind. I cannot answer "chances" questions, and for that matter, neither can anyone else.

Also, I want you to know that I will never take into account what is said on this discussion board when I read applications. Unless you print out a transcript of this discussion and include it in your application, it is null and void when it comes to making decisions.

Sorry Libby... didn't know

I am posting this here in response to a question in another thread that the moderator asked be used for information posting only. In that thread someone asked Libby about the apparent drop in SAT scores. While there may be a discrepancy between accepted and admitted student scores, there was an overall decline in SAT performance this year, perhaps Chicago;s scores are simply following a national trend.
<a href="http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/2006-05-09-SAT-scores_x.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/2006-05-09-SAT-scores_x.htm</a></p>

Libby,
I'm not sure if this has been asked or not but if someone is appying EA, does University of Chicago see senior "quarter" grades, or do they just put more importance to mid-report (semester) grades. (Our quarter grades don't go on our transcript) Thanks alot!

your final transcript is always sent to the school that you attend...if you get in

did anyone answer the question a/b u of c student body political affiliation? b/c i was wondering a/b that too

right, but if your applying early action, final grades aren't in by November. I know on their website they have a "mid-report" but that is completely different than a quarter report. So does U of C see the quarter report?

If the grades aren't on your transcript, we don't see them. We ask for your finacl semester or quarter grades on the midyear report. If your school doesn't report quarter grades (i.e. it runs on semesters), then you shouldn't report them to us.

This will all happen in January and February.

Political climate - extremely polarized, with a lot of involvement on both the left and the right.

Re: The viewbooks

That's great to hear Libby!

hmmm the politics sound great! thanks

i've got a question. is there a place where i can get a list of the med schools that u chicago students were admitted to and where they ended up going?

And law schools, while we're on the subject.

Does U Chicago look at international students and expect as much ECs from them? My highschool doesn't have much to offer so ...

Law schools and med schools: I'm afraid I don't have specific data on law school and med school, but I know that of all students polled who were going to graduate school just after graduation, over 90% got into their top choice. Of all grad schools, most of them were going here (surprise, surprise), and after that, the Ivies, Stanford, and UMich.

All of the med school students I know got in here an decided to attend. Chicago College grads make up about 10% of each of Pritzker's incoming classes.

One law student I know went to Penn, one to UVA, and one is going here.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

International students and ECs - we know that ECs are not a prevailing part of the the secondary school culture in many countries abroad. I definitely know that from reading Vancouver applications last year. So, we make judgements based on the culture we're reading. Singapore (for example) has a different academic and social atmosphere, so it also has a different atmosphere when it comes to community involvement, and we respect (and expect) that when reading applications. It's the same with any other country, and with any other credentials - grades are tougher in Canada, and recommendations are often rougher as well.

Libby,

Regarding neverborn's question, wasn't there a powerpoint from CAPS that detailed that kind of information very extensively? I seem to recall that one way or another I came accross it... had specific percentages on where people were heading and whatnot. Do you have any idea where it is that I might've seen that? hehe....

Um, could it have been at the April Overnight you attended last year?

Did you take notes? I'm not privy to CAPS' library of powerpoints, unfortunately.

nah it wasn't... I didn't go to the organized overnights, even... the one I did earlier in the year was good enough to sell me the idea of attending Chicago!!! heheh...

Well, neverborn, I have it saved on my pc in the US... if you can wait a week, PM me your email address and I'll gladly send it to you. And if what Libby said sounds too good to be true, believe it... I remember looking at the stats and being pleasantly surprised.
