I'm watching the Scholar right now on ABC (Mondays @ 8pm) and this thing was clearly filmed by a USC grad. It shows the most beautiful shots of USC in the intro (as well as interspersed through the show), the host points out its on the USC Campus every 10 minutes or so, and the teams of students were broken into the red and gold teams.

I havent seen the show....but...based on the students they choose...Arent all of these kids going to get full merit or need-based scholarships to any school they apply to anyways?

No, some of them have GPAs below 4.0, and I didn't see any perfect SATs. Also, there are fewer full merit scholarships than many people seem to think.

I missed the premiere episode, but the website says that they are from underprivileged backgrounds. Only a few people can get perfect SAT scores without ANY preparation in a prep class. One guy works four jobs, sometimes up to 80 hours a week. Think you can study for the SAT while working 80 hours a week? Another faces "overt racism" in Texas.

While I'm sure that these kids are probably deserving, I know that I specifically got an application for it because I'm hispanic. Interesting, huh?
