Watcha guys think

Hey made a new image :) Wat you guys think of it?
http://www.deviantart.com/view/26207170/

Whoa....that's amazing!!! How did you do that?

Photoshop and a program called Terragen

thx btw :P

Wow. Nice.

Ooooooooooooo...pretty. :)

very preetyy.

The image really lacks any real focal point. It's almost like you just threw all these different elements together in a pretty sloppy manner. You just have so many things going on it hurts the piece as a whole. For your space portion at the top you really need to work on developing it more, try to look at some pictures from the hubble space telescope and try to develop this more. I'd also work on my type and focus on making things less monochromatic, add more color, the bottom portion of your image is basically all orange. For composition I really think you should get a book called 'Grid Systems in Graphic Design' it will help TREMENDOUSLY, and keep at working on the photoshop skills for making space look better and more realistic.

I really hope this doesn't come off as me being overly negative, it's just that you do have talent but you really need to refine it to take your work to the next level. I was a lot like this a few years ago myself.

It's cool, but I would agree with dcfca that there is no focal point. Nonetheless, good work.

Also, I really think you should start displaying your work somewhere else besides DeviantArt. The fact of the matter is, a lot of the people at DeviantArt aren't that great and they wont give you the direction you need in order to take it up to the next level.

I'm a member of a graphic design forum but right now they're not accepting applications but you should try showing your work at http://www.somethingleet.com/forum/ you'll get criticism that's more helpful over there. (you'd post your work in the showcase forum)

I do agree It lacks a focal point.....however Usually my focal points involve exploding planets (or something in the ballpark) :P. During this holiday I tried to do something a bit more peaceful. Im also nobody commented on the clouds considering I dont like them at all :)

BTW dc I wanna see some of your stuff (you seemed "ok" back in 2003 and I figure you must be wayyyyyy better two years later)

sure.

personal work-

http://www.highway6.com/ali2/bschola2.jpg (based around a rap group from Washington. I went ahead and made a vector from their photographs and then incorporated it into a few other things. My concentration for my AP Art portfolio was people, and so many of my pieces from senior year have people and are usually made with vectors so I could have printed them much larger.)

client work-

A few obvious things. I quit doing 3d Abstract work. The fact of the matter is that there just isnt any market in it, and it really lacked any real substance so I just quit doing it. I really wnated to do work for clients to make extra money so my work moved to things that would be much more marketable. I haven't made a new piece in months but I've got one that i'm working on when I have time every now and then.

Client work is everything that was already paid for, so even if you guys might not like it... I got money for it :)

I havent really got many clients (im good in webdesign and know a few languages) The last one I had was way back in the summer :(

I need to get my website done and hosted

Also how do you advertise your services?

BTW-I didnt really start images because it was marketable..more of because it was something I enjoyed doing :P and I stopped abstract because people started requesting space images from me (my friends)

It's amazing, but I don't really see why it's a Holiday picture.
But again, awesome artwork.

Advertising your services is preeeeetty hard. Really you're better off putting together a portfolio (make up some fake client work, sample web designs, etc) and tryig to get a part time job at a small company that does web design in your area. Freelancing can just be REALLY lame. The money isn't constant, you have to start out accepting really low fees (50 dollars a flyer for instance) etc.

BUT if you want to free-lance, the best way is just word of mouth. Tell people thats what you do and maybe you can find people who need websites done. Check Craigslist too.
