I was on the ********* board and most people there said the primary reason to work for watchell or any other BIGLAW is to get into Ibanking(and that making partner is worthless because they still work long weeks). however, couldn't people with top MBAs start Ibanking right away anyways? Why toil 100+ hour weeks for big law just to transition into Ibanking?

PS why does this site **** a u t o a d m i t

You don't even need an MBA to get an ibanking job. I was offered one with a BS in Econ. In fact, usually it happens the other way around - the job is considered a credential for MBA admissions.

I love the idea of intense, important work. Wachtell is my ultimate goal. I'm going into my undergrad freshman year, and everything is geared towards working at wachtell.

Ha! I had everything geared towards Wachtell since I started kindergarten! You are so far behind...

I can't even believe that there is a discussion going on right now about which prestigious law firms might be overrated -- nor that the people having this discussion haven't even applied to law school yet.

trust me when i say this; a 27-32 year old making 280,000 is not overrated.
and the people who say it is are bitter because they didn't get the call back.

yeah harvard is overrated, the primary reason people go is so the can get into a good grad school or get a good job. why waste $160k on a poor undergrad education system for the name and prestige? :)

Don't forget the time value of money, too. These kids are making six figures while law students are paying $40K - and since it's so early on, that's worth a lot more than income later.
