Water aka H2O

okay so this might be a dumb question...but I want to know where do most people get their water from...i'm kinda the type who drinks atleast 3 L a day, and filing a jug with tap water from the fountain isn't very appealing =</p>

^ yeahhh i'm wondering this too! anyone know?

Trojan Grounds, vending machines, Superior...

Best answer: Buy a BRITA filter and keep it in your fridge.

Tap in the dorm.

dollar store. they sell 5 water bottles/dollar. so damn cheap.

5 years ago when my #1 son moved into New, Danone Water was at a table out in front of the dorms selling Sparkletts water delivery service. They rent the dispensers and bring bottles to your dorm room (yes, they carry it upstairs!) I think there must be a company that still does this because it was mentioned in the 2007 Check-Out Guide.

i reckon the brita filter would be a good, frugal option

Trojan Grounds. Water in a soda cup = 10 cents.

I had a Brita filter last year, and maybe I'm just lazy (okay I am really lazy), but I found it to be such a hassle going to the bathroom every day and filling up my filter (to be fair, my room was the farthest from the bathroom in the entire hall). Not to mention that I prefer drinking cold water, and my Brita filter didn't fit in the fridge. I would recommend water bottles if you're a cold water lover like myself, either from TroGro or the Dollar Store, Superior, wherever. For non-drinking water, like for cup ramen or whatever, a Brita filter is definitely recommended :)

If you buy 1/2 liter bottles in big flats (to carry around and fit in the fridge) and those 2-gallon jugs for everything else, I wouldn't be surprised if it was cheaper than those brita filters. "Purified" water is just stuff they've taken out of the same LA water tap and filtered for you, and isn't really too expensive.

is the tap water in LA significantly worse than EBMUD water?

I'm thinking Brita since I'm in a suite, so I won't have to go far for water... just to the kitchenette. Also good in New/North rooms with sinks. Do mini fridges have a freezer section?

To socks: This is just my opinion (lived in the Bay Area for 14 years), but L.A. tap water really is worse than EBMUD water. Does anybody second that?

To sjw2011: Yes, mini fridges do have a freezer section. The top half is the freezer, the bottom half is the fridge.

Wonderful... I'm going to be the queen of making ice! ooh && OTTERPOPS! I'm so ready!

OMG!!!! OTTERPOPS!!!! I'll be stealing them out of your fridge....lol

powerabe-
yea, living here for 17 years i've never thought twice about drinking tap water exclusively, but i've heard that the water is DISGUSTING .. so i guess that'll have to change!

Just from experience... the water that comes out of the sink in the New/North rooms is NASTY... I literally spit it back out. I'm definitely investing in a Brita water filter. Hopefully, it makes the water taste better.

Yeah I have to say, LA water is vastly inferior to Bay Area water... the first time I tried drinking unchilled water from my Brita filter, I nearly spit it back out. Which is why I only use Brita water for ramen :)

Most people just seem to buy water from Tro gro. If you ahve a rich friend they'll buy it for you. My roommie with brita never used it much except for makin' ramen (i see she posted already... actually right above me.)

I want one myself and gonna get it next year (does it taste that bad? eh i'll live through it) so I won't have to spend ridiculous 1.25 dollar per bottle at tro gro. I wanted to buy water from superior but I couldn't carry liquid back because its so damn heavy,...

They have water fountains in most dorms too and that's how some people get their liquids. I'm pretty sure they have filters attached to them so it shouldn't be so bad. Sometimes it taste like blood (aka metal) or maybe it was just because it was new?? It became alright after awhile but I just bought water instead.
