water-resistant backpack- help!

As a new college student, after days of incessant rain I'm quite sick of opening up a backpack to soaked, soggy books (yes i do use an umbrella!). Right now I am using the "standard" jansport backpack and it isnt proving to be quite effective in protecting my books from the rain. Does anyone have a backpack recommendation that they have found to be water-proof??? Please help!

I have a Jansport and it's proven to be more or less water resisitent. Things were slightly damp when we were getting rain at about 3 inches an hour (sadly that's not an exaggeration), but other than that I've been fine with it. It has sort of of plastic-y lining on the inside. I'm not sure how else to describe it, other than the backpack itself is not just straight fabric
For now, if things are getting that wet, just throw a plastic bag in there that you can slide your stuff into

there's stuff you can buy in a spray can to spray on things that makes them essentially water proof.... can't remember the name of the specific product, but it was vouched for by people who are outside for entire summers.

Some High Sierra (and probably some other brands too) come with a waterproof cover that stores in a pocket of the bag when not in use. It's similar to the covers used for hiking backpacks if you're familiar with that at all. I'll admit it looks somewhat nerdy, but IMHO, I'd rather look like a nerd than have a bag full of soaking wet books...
