Where does one get water in the dorms. Is there a water delivery service like Sparkletts or Arrowhead? If so, is it included in the housing plan?

You can get water from Sierra Springs (I think that's what it's called) and they deliver to your room. You'll get info about it when you move in.

it's not included in the meal plan, but you can get *cups of water for free in the dining halls. you have to use meal points to buy water bottles, but they're expensive

meh, i would go to Ralphs (15-minute walk) and buy a gallon of water and a 24-bottle case for $5...though i recommend this for the strong only ;]

or you could go to costco!

I recommend buying a gallon of water at ralphs and refilling it (for a quarter!) at those water machines. I know they have one in Warren, not sure about other colleges.

what about this?

im going to be living in a sixth dorm, so how about all of my suitemates pitch in and get one of those sparkletts like dispenser things.

i guess it could work, but be prepared to address sharing issues -- like if one person invites over ten friends and they drain an entire jug ... does everyone have to pay?

sixth dorms are so close to ralph's. the bus even drops you off like 3 minutes from the dorms (compared to like...muir, it took me an additional 8 min). i say go to ralph's, get the water and walk/take the bus back.

and if you divided up the dispenser...who gets to keep it in the end?

if not, i dunno about you, but when i had $2100 mealpoints, it was so much i started just blowing it on random stuff at the dining halls, including bottled water. but i'm a girl so that might make a difference.

What about the tap water? Is that drinkable?

try it and then let me know how it turns out =]

Seriously just drink the stinkin tap water, it really isn't that bad... in fact I'm drinking it right now mmmmmmmmmmmmm :D

One of those water filter things would work just fine right? Like Britta etc.

not even my born-and-bred-in-SD friends willingly drink that water.

(currently celebrating living in NYC, where tap water is actually GOOD)

I have been drinking UCSD water for the past month and it is totally fine. It definitely isn't the best tasting, but it's free!... and full of minerals ;)

get a water filter pitcher thing and you should be all set

If you don't mind a slight walk, get one or two of those gallon jugs of water, and walk to warren and fill them up for 25 cents a gallon. I had friends from muir who'd walk to warren with 2 jugs each. Depends on whether it's worth it for you or not.

I'd also recommend getting a water filter pitcher. It's cheap, good for the environment (not wasting plastic bottles), you don't have to carry big jars of water over long distances, etc..

reviving an old thread...
does anyone know of any water vending machines ($0.25/gallon) in places other than warren? like somewhere close to marshall? or is that the only one on campus?

I think that is the only one on campus. There is one at Ralphs if that helps any.
