Waterfront

Now that Indoc is over (!?!?!?) (or almost) will the PCs be able to go down to the waterfront for their activities?

Yes...the waterfront is open for candidates as soon as Indoc is completed. Many candidates (I didn't) take advantage of the waterfront activities since it's a way to get away from the plebe stress. I'm a m/n from 2010...

I know my son was really looking forward to getting out on a sailboat during INDOC. He wrote that although he'd had INDOC classes in sailing and seamanship, he hadn't had the opportunity to go out on a boat yet (as of earlier this week.) Do all the companies go out during INDOC? We've seen online photos of some, but not all. Sailing is HUGE to my son! I know he can't wait to get out there!

dinghy team is the best

Indoc...is pretty much over, so he'll be sailing in no time. Upperclass report back in tomorrow, so he should be able to be on and sailing as soon as then.

This may sound like a stupid question, but how do they know when to go? Are they summoned or do they just wonder down there? My son is doing dinghy!

I believe the first practices are the first day school starts. The offshore team coach said show up at the waterfront after classes the first day. If I'm not mistaken the 24th is the "meet the coach" night. At least that's on the Regimental Calendar for the 24th, and besides MMAMom, our kids will find it just fine, not ours to worry about practices any more LOL!

Without all of his distractions (girlfriend, Xbox, TV, etc.), I'm thinking he'll remember....but you never know. My son is a bit of the absent-minded professor type. I'm hoping KP will straighten that out!! Going to KP today for church, so I'll "file" my report tonight!! Can't WAIT!

You lucky duck! Wish I lived close enough to attend church with my son. That is one thing I really miss. We've always done church together on Wed evening and Sunday mornings. :( I expect a report later today!

I agree with Suzannegra. Enjoy your time at church with your kid and please give a report so we can imagine being there as well. :)

WE NEVER MADE IT TO CHURCH! Every parent's nightmare: upon arriving we learn that our son was taken to the EMERGENCY ROOM at Northern Shores Hospital. He's okay though! Our friend WYTL took him to the Emergency Room so he was in good hands. WYTL also found me to break the news. Long story short, he had passed out from a wide-spread virus (dehydrated?). I can report that, God-forbid, your child have to have medical treatment, I was impressed by their thoroughness (he had a CAT scan, EKG and bloodwork) and bedside manner [we were allowed to stay with him 3.5 hours!!, bring him back to campus (he would not let us take him to breakfast - he would not call anyone - he would not let me get him a Coke - he would not break the Honor Code) and watch him eat brunch at the Academy Infirmary]. The doctor at the Academy was wonderful; she spent a lot of time "nursing" me (I needed it more than him at that point)and I could tell that she genuinely cared about my kid. Later in the afternoon, he rejoined the plebes by the waterfront to cheer on his company (he is not allowed any physical activity for 48 hours). We watched the waterfront activities from the sailing center deck and they looked like they were having a blast! It was a gorgeous day and they were split up into 4 areas; some rowed in a lifeboat race, some swam in the harbor area, some did tug of war on the lawn, some threw bowlines off of the Kings Pointer. Although I didn't see much, our son entertained us with GREAT stories between doctors, nurses and technicians while getting two I.V. drips. I was surprised to learn that the kids don't get to know each other well during Indoc because they are not allowed to socialize; he really only knows his roommate well. I can't say too much because I don't want him to get in trouble. Suffice it to say, even given the trauma he experienced, he was okay and wanted to go back to be with the plebes as soon as possible. Wow, we're just into this 2+ weeks?????

I have to tighten my seatbelt, this rollercoaster is just too much for me!!

MOM

Wow what a bucket of cold water in the face. I am glad your son did not have anything more serious and is fine. I know you are proud that sick and all he kept the honor code.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Great kid, great 3.5 hour visit, great post, great attitude (both Mom and her Plebe Candidate-I just love typing that now). Must have been really scary for a while, though. You guys are handling is wonderfully.

Now, I need to find out how to have a 55 gallon drum of Purel Instant Hand Sanitizer drop-shipped into 4th company to clobber this virus !

Yikes! Bet WYTL will be on the Xmas card list this year. He's the best. Glad son is ok MMAMom. Glad you shared the story so everyone knows their kids are in good hands even if the worst should happen. So sorry for your scary moments. So happy for your precious shared moments. Thats one for the memory album!

Zonk, where can we make a donation for shipping costs? :D

Was this virus in the whole 4th co? What platoon is your son in MMAMom? Still haven't heard from mine and he's in 4th co 2nd platoon.

Yes, my son is in 4th Co, 2nd Platoon, and according to the doctor this virus is widespread; it is upper respiratory (which could somewhat account for their hoarse voices, post nasal drip/sinus/cough). I DID hear from him tonight on the Instant Message and his dizziness is gone. After Indoc, they switched roommates and combined Platoon 1 PCs with Platoon 2 PCs, so your son, if in 2nd platoon is now bunking with someone in the 1st. Hopefully you'll hear from him on the computer! Until then, no news is good news.

Had a quick note from mine in 2nd company this evening before he had to go to a meeting. They changed roomates too and have 3 to a room now. 2nd company had 3 candidates quit, one for medical and the other 2...who knows. He's said nothing of the virus thats going around.

Woohoo! Just got an email from our PC and he is ok. Has another room mate. They weren't allowed to call yesterday. He said they won the drill competition. :)Anybody know when that was?

I believe that drill competetion is held the same day as the parade, so it would have been on Friday. As a matter of fact, before the parade started there was a brief period when the cameras were rolling. I could see a couple of platoons in their shorts and T- shirts practicing, but, I thought i saw another platoon in khakis drilling. It looked like this other platoon was being evaluated by upper classmen with clipboards

Here is a link that SCmom07/11 posted in another thread --- Photos taken during the drill competition. <a href="http://photos.walmart.com/shareethumbnailshare/AlbumID=13856957/albumcount=1/p=202221185099517643/l=7387585/g=5051419/cobrandOid=1011/otsc=SYE/otsi=SALB/pns/share/p=202221185099517643/l=7387585/g=5051419/cobrandOid=1011/otsc=SYE/otsi=SALB%5B/url%5D">http://photos.walmart.com/shareethumbnailshare/AlbumID=13856957/albumcount=1/p=202221185099517643/l=7387585/g=5051419/cobrandOid=1011/otsc=SYE/otsi=SALB/pns/share/p=202221185099517643/l=7387585/g=5051419/cobrandOid=1011/otsc=SYE/otsi=SALB</a> I am not certain, but I think the photographer takes pictures of football games too.

I think the photos are GREAT and hope he posts frequently and copiously! I'm signing up for lessons! (where's the signup sheet?)
