apayton, there are others people on this site that have lots of experience with college admissions and almost to a person, they say that teachers, counslelors, etc have a cushion

do you honeslty think that admissions people would reject an application because a teachers rec letter was a few days late>

whatever school your acquaintence works in, I would not want my kid to apply to, talk about a horrid admissions office, to TRASH an application because a GC was a day late is one school I wouldn't give my money to

apayton, some schools, but very few, do have a "received by" deadline for all admissions materials, including recs and transcripts. Those schools make it very clear on their websites. The schools the OP asked about have a postmarked deadline, not a received by deadline, and it is also quite clear that there is some leeway in receipt of documents not under the students' control. Why else would the schools send e-mails or postcards saying, "You file is missing X and so. Please submit it." Or "Your file will not be reviewed until the missing information is received" if they weren't going to accept the information after the deadline?

Your relative's school may be the exception.
