Wayne State Medstart 2010

University of Michigan is a really good school. I think I would be shunned if I went there though. I come from a family of die-hard Michigan State fans and alumni. That’s not the only reason though, I’m really worried about college costs and MSU and U of M are soo expensive, but what colleges aren’t? I really am set on Wayne but biomedical engineering would be really interesting! Did you go to the Wayne Open house on the 16th? I talked to someone about the Biomedical Physics program they have, it sounds pretty cool.
Yeah, luckily I’m a people’s person. Hopefully I will get to prove that with an interview, fingers crossed.

Oh well I will go to U of M but never MSU lol. I like Michigan a lot better. Yea, I am good at math and science, so I figured biomedical engineering would meet up with my interests. Plus it gives me an opportunity to enter medical school. No, I didn’t go to the open house on the 16th. It’s weird because I was thinking of going till the morning of the open house and then figured to stay home. I figured it was going to be way too busy and that I probably won’t gain any new info. Did you go to it? Are you planning on going to any of the informational meeting? I guess we both are people persons which will definitely help us with any interviews. Yea, I have my fingers crossed all the time lol. I hope we both get an interview at least. Good Luck!

I went to the open house. It was actually pretty informative. It was also nice to see the campus again and tour the surounding area. I really wanted to look at the different housing options, since I will have to live on campus. Th dorms are actually pretty nice, esp compared to State. I’m still not sure about the informational meetings. I’m pretty busy with EC’s and sports and such and it is long drive for me.
And again, good luck to you!

What new info did you learn that wasn’t already on their website or on this lol? I really want to know if there was anything really important said. I haven’t visited State but I know Wayne has got some pretty good housing. I don’t know, maybe I will check out the next informational meeting and go to it. You said you live by Lansing right? Yea, that’s really far. And again, good luck to you! Hope we both get into the program lol!

I didn’t go to the informational meeting. I really don’t know what they would talk about that isn’t somewhere on the website.
Yeah, I live between Lansing and Grand Rapids so Detroit is a good two hours away for me. I hope we both make it in too! It will be nice to actually know someone at Wayne State because right now I know no one. haha

Oh okay. I thought you went to one of the meetings. How was the open house btw? Everything you really need to know is on their website. You don’t no anyone at Wayne State? Well, I am Indian so I am sure that Wayne is crowded with my people haha. Yea, it would be nice to know someone there also. You sound like a really nice person! If we both make it in, it would be weird, but at the same time AWESOME.

The open house was cool. They had a lot going on and everyone was friendly.
Nope, i know no one at Wayne. Detroit is going to be a big change for me. I come from a very small town, I have 175 in my graduating class and we’re the biggest graduating class ever. Our school is on a dirt road, its pretty hick.
I really hope we can both make it into the program! I feel like it will be more difficult since I come from a small school that doesn’t offer very many challenging classes. We have one AP class and its language, something I had no intrest in taking. We don’t have any honors courses or anything, but i’m dual enrolled at the community college, so I don’t know. Do you come from a larger school?
I think it would be way more awesome than weird if we both made it in! You sound like you deserve it and I can tell you want it, Good luck!

Hi people, i’m also applying to the MedStart program. and honestly, i want to go to Wayne even if i don’t get into MedStart. i think it would be cool to share information as we go through the process. :)

Gillian2011, I should have probably gone to the open house. I guess I know some people at Wayne plus they’re all mainly Indian haha. Wow, I thought my school was small. Well, I have 449 in my graduating class. My school may sound large but it is not that good when it comes to preparing for these advanced programs. The school lacks info on these programs and I literally had to venture out on my own to find out everything. Because of this, I am not as qualified as some of the others whose schools were helpful in setting up volunteering or job shadowing opportunities. I challenge myself though with the toughest classes so I guess that’s good right? I dual enrolled in one class and that was it because I have APs and stuff at school. I think we both deserve it and I hope we both get in. Good Luck!

forevafree, it’s nice to see that you’re interested in the program also. How do you feel about your chances at the program? We could exchange details about the programs as time goes on. That would be cool.

Indian11-I feel your pain. Its hard being from a smaller school with less oppurtunities. I have done a lot of independent research as well. Its difficult, but maybe it will show that we actually want this? I’m not sure. But hopefully!

forevafree-Welcome! I hope we can help you:) I know it has been helpful for me to talk to other applicants.

Sent my application yesterday!

Really? Good Luck! How do you feel you’re gonna do?

Fingers crossed, I hop i’ll do well. It isn’t my top choice but it would be nice to get in :)

Hi guys im also applying, but i have a few questions on how to send everything. Did u guys put everything into one envelope and send it together (app, essay, recs, transcript) or did u have your rec letters and transcript sent separately? Any help on this would be appreciated

I had to send two copies of my transcript: one to the undergraduate admissions office, and one to the address as shown on the Wayne State MedStart page. As for your letters of recommendation, I would send them to both the undergrad and medstart address as well.

That is what they told me on the phone anyway.

batpad- Whats your first choice?

And sorry I haven’t sent in my app yet. Can’t help you.

Got a confirmation letter. They’re choosing after Jan 15!

Top choice…idk yet.

Hey, I’m also applying to MedStart. What were all of your stats? Just out of curiousity!

My stats are a couple posts back on page 3.
What do you feel your chances are of getting in?
Are you familiar with the program?
Good Luck!

Gillian2011: Thanks! Your GPA is very high and your EC’s are amazing, so I think you definitely have a shot!

I think I have decent changes, but I’m not really sure  There haven’t been any MedStart acceptances from my school for a while, and usually there are at least 5 ivy league acceptances each year. That definitely tells you something about the selectivity of this program…

I also attended the open house, but only the luncheon part (in the afternoon). I am pretty familiar with it; I have some friends who are currently in the program. The only concern I have is that it’s way too close to home and the environment isn’t exactly the best.

Good Luck to you too!
