Is there any way to learn a language faster, like a summer program for spanish or something? I'm starting Spanish I for my freshman year...but I'd like to get ahead in Spanish...are there any summer programs for languages...or does learning a language take time?

It takes a whole lot of time, just like learning English for me!

yes, languages take time....

my spanish teacher put it best when she said the best way to learn a language is to talk to people in that language...

I have heard from countless sources that total immersion is the best way to learn a language. Obviously, it is not the best way to learn things in the language.

A Spanish immersion program would really get you far.

It does take a lot of time. The best way is to use that language non-stop for a certain period of time even if all you can say is how are you.

@imiracle911: Well, I'm not sure I'd go that far. Living in Costa Rica won't teach you Spanish. You should have a background in the language, bring your study materials, and work with people who know you are learning.

Concordia Language Programs has a summer 4 week immersion program in Minnesota for a year of high school credit. It will get you ahead in terms of your class sequence, but personally, I don't think you really learn that much Spanish unless you are participating in a true immersion program in some Spanish speaking country.
