So I wanted to do early admission to one school that I have showed great interest in. Sadly, I wouldn't be able to make the deadline so I will be doing regular decision. I want to show this school that I'm extremely interested and would attend if accepted. What are the different things I can do to convey that without seeming overbearing? Should I send a letter to the dean or send in a DVD? Or should I just not do anything extra?

A quirky YouTube video professing your love for the school shouldn’t be too time-consuming and may brighten the adcom’s day. Of course, this won’t work if you’re applying at Tufts or some other school that already encourages YouTube videos.

That you’re passionate about the school should come through in your application. Study up on the school and in your application suggest how your focus in high school, your sports and other ECs are a good match. Be careful not to overdo this. For one, your application may come through as unrealistic and artificial, and, regardless of your passion and your qualifications you may not get in. Selective schools are just that – many qualified applicant are not offered places.

You say that you can’t apply ED/EA. If you’re that passionate and the school is a fit, and you can deal with the finances, then find a way to do that.

Avoid the dramatic. It will most likely fall flat and not help your application.

If it’s a tippy top school, your “extreme” interest will be all for naught as “interest” isn’t a factor in admissions. What school are you targeting?

Haha I actually tattooed MIT on my back for funzies. Those temporary tattoos they sent stayed on for quite a while. o_o

On topic, depends which schools. If your school has that little section where you can check off everything you’ve done, (talked to admissions officer, attended info session, visited campus, talked to alum, etc) you should try to do everything on that list. :]

Top schools won’t care whether or not you’re interested, since the name recognition alone is likely to draw you in if accepted.

However, all schools will want to see that you’ve done your homework and can articulate your reasons for wanting to attend. Demonstrate those reasons in your “Why X” essays. Be specific–what courses do you want to take? clubs do you want to join? professors do you want to study under?

The tat would be a good idea if I wasn’t deathly afraid of needles
Thanks for the advice. I’m already sending a DVD with all my work (applying to their Film/TV program)
