Ways you have seen "Berkeley" misspelled

berkely
berkley
berkerely (??)

By the way, if you even go to UC Hair Salon, they actually have a poster with their address spelled incorrectly (Berkely)!!

berkeley (i do this)

berkly ......................................

My friend calls it berzerkly, but I know its just for fun

*Berserkeley, although in the official "visit berkeley" guide they spell it like this: Berzerkeley. It's a well-known pejorative term for the city!

I thought it's a term for the school because some students are so crazy due to the competition (or so the legend goes).

berkely. annoying. so annoying.

Some students on the east coast mistake Berkeley for Berklee, which is a very well-known music school in Boston.

"Cal State" :)

number one way people mispelled it in my year book : "Berkley"
Number two: " Berkly"

People are dumb. lol

It's not exactly berkeley's name but..

Berkeley University

Or

University of Berkeley.

Mostly on the east coast.

Berekely (that's how I used to spell it)

Hah, no. It refers to the craziness of the people in the City of Berkeley, a legendarily liberal city.

"It's not exactly berkeley's name but..

Berkeley University

Or

University of Berkeley.

Mostly on the east coast."

ha, I like how we're not even associated with the UC system at times.

lol @ cal state.

"I thought it's a term for the school because some students are so crazy due to the competition"

Me too, that's what I thought.

It's kind of funny that you guys would think that. I think that kind of a mistake says something about how UC Berkeley has changed over the years.

Anyway, Berkeley (the city, with UCB as an integral part) is known for its over-the-top liberalism (you guys have to know that) and aging hippies.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=berserkeley

Berzerkeley refers to the 1960s in said town a la Students for a Democratic Society.

http://berkeleypubliclibrary.org/system/Chapter9.html

Ok, one time a math teacher in high school refered to the university as UC Beserkeley...

"The city's image as "the People's Republic of Berzerkeley" derives from this period and probably best expresses the common popular understanding (or misunderstanding) of the experience and heritage of Berkeley in the sixties."

It's why if you tell some people on the East Coast that you are going to Berekeley they will say, "Oh, I bet you'll come back with piercings and tattoos and a pony tail!"
