Wd. love to know about all the different Tisch studios

I’d love to hear something firsthand about each of the Tisch studios-- not in terms of, This one is the best, or this one is the worst, but just about people’s own impressions of them and experiences-- classes and professors that were especially great, how hard it is to move from one studio to another after 2 years, how that sequencing thing actually works, the differences in approach, focus, productions, internships, auditions for casting etc.

Basically-- anything at all would be helpful! (and yes I have already checked out each of the studio websites.)

Sanity

What a great idea for a post! My child is in Adler and I have to be completely honest to let you know that I have no idea what distinguishes it from the other studios. My daughter mentions that the approach is imagination based.

Like all the other studios, her freshman year was strictly training. She did a lot of voice and speech, some movement (which she insists is not dance), ballet and scene study. Apparently, they do a lot of classical training. Her scene study required quite a bit of outside work with a scene study partner. Each scene she performed in class required about 10 hours of outside preparation. Naturally, all her scene study partners seemed to be living in dorms far away from her.

This year, the ability to audition and actually work on shows put more demands on her time. There seemed to be an abundance of performance opportunities and as you can imagine she was like a kid in a candy store and overdid it! (Of course, loving every moment of it!)

She is staying with the same studio next year so I have no idea what happens when a student wants to switch. She is not aware of anyone switching studios, but she would never ask. I talked with a few parents at her last performance and they mentioned that their children were toying with the idea of going into other studios. I asked why and they said that there were certain aspects the training that they especially enjoyed and felt that other studios would enable them to delve into these areas. (i.e. one is considering Playwrights for the directing opportunities.) Since my daughter isn’t switching I don’t know what that would entail.

My daughter has been extremely happy with her studio and feels that the approach matches her talents and interests. She has adored all her teachers and looks forward to going to her studio classes. (She has friends in the other studios and they all say the same thing!!!)
