Colleges say they accept the SAT or the ACT. However, if they require SAT subject tests they'll see your SAT score. Do you think that if you do really well on the ACT, but less well on the SAT, they completely ignore the SAT altogether. That's what they say on their websites, but I don't know to believe it.

The Director of Admissions at the University of Wisconsin came to my high school yesterday for a talk with us.

According to him, he suggested taking the SAT and ACT twice, submitting all your scores for them, and then the admissions staff would pick which ones would work most in your favor.

Obviously, this is just him and that school, and who knows if it's actually even true, but it did suprise me to hear him say it like that.

Don't know if that helped with your question! XD

Do you think that if you do really well on the ACT, but less well on the SAT, they completely ignore the SAT altogether.

OR VICE VERSA AS WELL

According to what he said, that's how they would do it at UW.

I have no idea about other schools though.

I'm still skeptical of that. I get the feeling that the SAT is weighted more heavily, unless you're in the midwest where the ACT is more common. They'll still see your SAT scores from the subject tests score report and [with or without knowing it] they'll somewhat judge you when they see that SAT score. I've always been told that.

We don't care which you submit to us, SAT-1 or ACT. If you send both scores, we'll determine which looks best and use those as your formal submission--it's fair to the student, AND it's best for us (we want to report the best scores to all the rankings/magazines that inquire, and all reports we submit). I don't believe we're alone in this thinking....

Colleges are not out to look for the mistakes in your application - they're looking to make a competitive class. Beside, adcoms don't even know you - why would they be out to get you? Seriously.

Also realize that a lot of schools will accept the ACT with writning in lieu of the SAT and the SAT subject tests. Therefore, if you are really worried about it you can see which is better and just send the test you want. Make sure you take the writing part of the ACT though.
