Lets go Blue Jays!!!

I just spent the weekend at the Men's D1 Lax tournament and wooot!!!! Hopkins WON!!!

The games were INCREDIBLE, both JHU games were amazing and for anyone who is looking at Hopkins and/or is definately going, you need to get out to the games, they are a blast.

The alumni I met (and there were a TON including the entire 1980 Championship team) were all very enthusiastic and all told me they had a great time. They were amazingly nice (though they admittedly become even nicer when you tell them you are going to Hopkins). Many of them still have a lot of friends from their four years at Homewood and all of them came decked out in the blue and white for their alma mater.

Overall a fantastic experience.

Yay!!!! I saw the game on ESPN and it was so awesome. I can't wait to arrive at Hopkins in a couple of months!

Wouldn't a team name like Tigers or Sharks or something sound more intimidating than "blue jays"? I told some friends the name of my school mascott and they laughed at me :)

Blue Jays are incredibly powerful, mean, and assertive (aggressive?) birds: have you ever seen them take over a bird feeder?? We're not talking about chickens or pigeons here: we're talking about take-no-prisoners tough guys in the bird kingdom. Just so you know. :)

(And PS: What a sweet victory! Raise a banana at a game for this alum next year, will you?)

haha andrew, that's gonna be us 10 years from now. ^_^ JHU rocks! Go blue jays!

JHU > Duke... Not just at Lax.

just don't attend lacrosse games for school spirit.. there's soccer, football, swimming, basketball, etc.. and they all have great teams. Oh, yeah, I know, they are D3 but so what! Hopkins could use as much school spirit as possible :)

Those last 13 minutes of the championship game seem to take FOREVER

And I got to rub the win into the face of a friend of mine who's going to Duke : )

time to rub it into duke people i know..

ahh this makes going to hopkins much more sweeter

"Raise a banana at a game for this alum next year, will you?"

Last week in the Baltimore Sun, there was a picture of Kyle Harrison holding a banana. Am I missing something?

OH yes. :)

I can tell you the whole long story if you'd like (in five-part harmony), especially since I am responsible for it in the first place... but in short, the most rabid and knowledgeable alumni fans call themselves the Blue Jay Bananas. They wear yellow t-shirts, try to sit near the band, raise a banana during the counting cheers after what is generally among them agreed to be the decisive goal of the game (the banana goal), and then award "game bananas" to players most deserving of notice for their play in that game. (The practice is now to award several game bananas, rather than the single banana awarded in the Early Years.)

Aren't you glad you asked? ;)

(PS: Is that picture of Harrison with the banana online anywhere? I'd love to see it...)

I must say, that championship game was crazy --- but it makes it soooo much harder to wait until the fall to join that atmosphere

GO HOPKINS

Wow...if you guys thought the championship game was crazy, you should have seen the gave vs Duke back in April. JHU won in double OT...I wish I was there to see it. ;(
