It seems as if we are a lonely group now. Is this good? Is this bad? Who knows. This is for all applicants (by Dec. 1st I would assume???) who have the status "Your application has been forwarded for committee review."

Now I know in the past, this status usually predated an acceptance w/ Presidential or Trustee scholarship. Well, for one, I got that letter stating that I was not in the running for those two scholarships.

A little more about me: I applied by the Dec. 1st scholarship deadline, have had the "preliminary" status for quite some time, but my status turned to "forwarded" not too long ago (I submitted my mid-year grades a few days before it turned to "forwarded," but I never got a request to do so other than on the "no scholarship letter," where it was asked on the bottom).

For those who also have the "forwarded" status, there aren't too many of us relatively. If you have this status, or info on it, please post any advice/info/etc THX!

I have had this status for a couple weeks now I never had preliminary status went straight from “Application being reviewed” status to “Forwarded for committee review” status. I applied by Dec 1 also and I never received the “no scholarship letter” but it could be mine got lost in the mail because my mail has been questionable lately and I live in NY so it takes time for the mail to get here from USC.

I have been on forwarded for a few weeks now. I’ve never had the preliminary status, as far as I can tell, and and I have two (completely guesses) theories:

One is that the applications that have been forwarded are sitting in a nice pile of acceptances, ready to be released next wave, but changing over to the “decision” status would be too obvious.

The other is exactly the opposite. We could be sitting in a pile of rejections because they don’t want to release rejections until April.

Or, I suppose, we could be in the pile waiting to be reviewed.

D has the ‘app has been forwarded to committee for review’ status, and she did not apply for FA. Based on scores, does not expect to be considered for a scholarship either. Don’t know if that helps.

I had the preliminary status before getting the forward status. And I did receive the no scholarship letter.Do you think that people with the forwarded status without ever having a preliminary status are in a different boat from the people with the forwarded status after having the preliminary status?

hello21, I don’t have a clue and, frankly, wouldn’t be surprised if the admissions people didn’t either. They’re dealing with so many applications that they must have multiple people updating the database, with some of them being probably faster/better at it than others. So I think we should take these sometimes mind-boggling updates with a grain of salt. For example, some applicants had a status update only to see it reverted soon afterwards. Also, there doesn’t seem to be a natural progression when it comes to the various “stages.”

I remain of an opinion that USC’s status updates cause unnecessary angst–whoever designed it clearly didn’t have a high school senior going through the process–but I also think that the admissions people must be just as unhappy as we are with this system. After all, they’re the ones who have to enter these silly updates into the system for thousands upon thousands of applicants. So hang in there and wait for the letter in the mail. That seems to be the one reliable piece of information in this whole status saga.

For those wondering, S had the “preliminary review” status and is now at “forwarded.” But then I gave up a while ago on trying to understand if this means something good, bad, or even anything at all.

I have forwarded too, and am not expecting to get in (although I would absolutely LOVE to…so…Universe…if you’re reading this…I’d love to give USC my money…)

I went from the “We have recieved your application for Fall 2010 Admissions, and decisions will be mailed to your home by the April 1st deadline” to the “Your application is being reviewed by the committee”.

I have never recieved the no scholarship letter. For one, I did not apply by the automatic scholarship deadline. I have never recieved a letter stating they needed my mid-year grades…I did submit them online…Which was EXTREMLY terrible…I got 4 D’s, 2C’s, and 1 A…I know, this just through my POSSIBLE consideration out the window…Who knows…I have tons of community service and a lot going on, even in my Senior year…So they may consider all of that…I don’t know…

Today 2/16/2010…I recieved the “Paying For College” brochure through the mail…It had a letter. Within the letter, it stated that “I am very pleased that your child has applied to USC for Fall 2010” also “I am excited about your child’s application to USC and we look forward to working with you!” I take all of these things as a plus…I look at it in a way that…Well, why would they waste ther time sending out info about my parents paying for me going to their school, and they’re not going to accept me.

My letters of recommendation were EXTREMLY well written…One came from my Spanish 3 teacher, and my principal!

Well…God holds the key to my future, and if it is his will to have me at USC, then it is…If not, then it wasn’t meant to be…I say all of this to say…Your life will not stop if you do not get accepted to USC…There are HUNDREDS of other schools you would enjoy…Just keep your head up and expect the unexpected…If you think you’re gonna be rejected, say you’ll be accepted…You NEVER know…It’s not just: grades, scores, essays, letters of recommendations, etc. It’s the WHOLE student…ONE of those things may inspire the admissions counselor to slide you on in…Maybe they are in a good day…Maybe your essay or one of your letter of recommendation may get yout through the door…Maybe, if you put your ethnicity info. down, affirmative action may help you in the door…There are NUMBERS of things…Stay positive and blessed!

“BEING REVIEWED” for weeks -> “PRELIMINARY (didn’t ask for my midyear grades)” for few weeks -> “FORWARDED” since last weekend

I applied by the Jan 11th deadline (Architecture).

But I’m guessing “forwarded” is a better sign than “unable”, “being reviewed”, or any other signs because currently, not many people have the “FORWARDED” status.

Also, considering what has happened in the past (accepted ED applicants had “forwarded” right before “has acted on”), oxolojo’s first theory has the highest chance of being true.

But again, I’m just presuming. We can never know what those statuses mean. :(

My son still has “forwarded.” It has been like that for a couple of weeks. He is applying to the engineering school so I’m guessing they have many applicants to review. He did get the “no Presidential scholarship” letter but he is still being considered for other scholarships per the letter.
Good luck to everyone!

I had the “preliminary” status for weeks. Yesterday my status was “not able to process” then it changed to “being reviewed, we will notify you by April 1st” this morning and I just checked right now and it is “your application has been forwarded for committee review”
I am so ridiculously confused.

wouldn’t forwarded for committee review mean that you are waiting to be reviewed and then being reviewed means you are being reviewed, and the preliminary review would have been before both of those?

I have the same exact situation as missionewokzzz. Ive had it for atleast a week now, and I have no idea what the hell it means but it sounds good…

I went from preliminary to forwarded, later than most people that are currently ‘forwarded’ did. It was about a week and a half ago. I skipped the ‘unable’ phase. I’m taking it as a good thing, as it has been in the past, and my stats are good and I expect to get in (33 ACT, 3.91 GPA).

However, all of this should really be taken with a grain of salt, because they obviously don’t have any definite meaning, as some of us I’m sure will be rejected and others accepted, as I don’t think acceptance is the only factor on which our status is based. Personally I’ve become very, very annoyed with all of the speculation regarding the statuses and trying to follow it is very hectic because people are posting the same theories pages apart and nothing is ever comprehensive, and information is never going to be gathered orderly though a forum, so we really can’t do a correlation test between scores & status for example.
