I know buying books can be very expensive? What are the best ways to get books to study on campus? Can we get used books? Or does it help to by on eBay, amazon etc.
Does the library carry text books? Is sharing books common on campus?
Is there any other alternative to get your hands on the text books we need?

All tips and tricks are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Well, I think if you estimate about $300/quarter, that should be ok. Maybe $400 depending on the classes you take. So that'd be $1200-$1600 per year.

You should watch it though. Sometimes professors don't even recommend those books, even though they say "required". I had some instances when I actually bought my books online before the quarter started, went to class, then heard I didn't even need it. Some classes you can share with a classmate. It all depends on the class.

Also note that you might have to buy Course Readers. A course reader is basically a bunch of relevant articles slapped together into a book so that way you won't have to buy the book for every article. You'll have to buy them in Westwood (the lines are moderately long) and they're non-refundable.

A comment on variation of price... it really depends on which classes you take. I've heard most of the math or science classes have the more expensive books. I'm not a math/science major... this quarter has been my cheapest so far: my course reader ($92) cost more than all my other books combined! But I have a feeling that's an exception. Still, $200-$300 is possible depending on which classes you take.

yes, many students sell their used books to other students. if you can't find any takers, you can also try to sell them back to the book-buyback store located right next to the bookstore, although they'll probably buy it back from you for a very low price.
