Chance for Berkeley *top choice :D, cornell, ucla, and in my dreams columbia :P

If your UC GPA is a 4.0, you have a shot at Berkeley and LA. While your GPA is on their low side, your SAT is higher than their averages. Plus they really need the OOS tuition dollars. So fair shot from a well represented state and good shot if you’re from a stay not sending them many applicants.

Cornell (if it’s CAS) and Columbia will be tougher.

if your HS if really a top 50, then i’d say your chances at cornell and columbia aren’t completely out the window. if you can bring your SATs up a bit and write some BOMB essays, that its a definite possibility. and like 2c2c said, UCLA and Cal are very probable if your UCGPA is above a 4.0

Uw and class rank is obviously low cuz of my 3.57 freshmen year. My school doesn’t rank but it’s extremely competitive. Sends kids to ivy leagues every year. Blue ribbon blah blah blah.

An extremely competitive high school sends over 25% to ivies. You have to see things in the context adcom do. The most competitive high schools in the country are not on the Newsweek list because they exclude private and top magnet schools.

arandom, Your SAT I score may be a little low for Berkeley in the Engineering applicant pool-- what was your SAT I Math section score and what did you get on your SAT II’s that you just recently got results on?

UC’s will assess you based on 10th and 11th grade GPA, using the UC GPA formula, so you are “fine” there. However, your test scores do not put you at the top of the applicant pool in your intended major (Engineering) and you are an OOS applicant making the UC’s more selective. I think UCB and UCLA would still have to be considered low reaches but you still have a realistic shot at both. Use the UC statfinder link below and answer a few prompts in the “Custom Tables” section to see what the admit rates are for your profile:
