Weak SAT:II results, clarification?

Hi,

I got back my Subject test scores yesterday and I was stroke by the 570 in German w/ Listening. I feel it doesn't reflect my abilities in this language and perhaps I just had a bad day for German, because I score A's and B's and when I was in the States, I placed at the 96th percentile in the National German High School Examination. Do you think I should email the admission office with an "apology" and a little insight into my situation with German?

I'm an international student (not from Germany, obviously) and would like to get rid of another factor for my rejection.

Thanks

You shouldn't send a note or a clarification; it'll make it sound like an excuse, which is something you don't want to do.

Suck it up and I hope that your other scores are better. Usually they don't mind the low scores because a lot of the language subject tests are taken by native speakers.

I am in the same position...well, kind of.

I got a 690 on Spanish w/ Listening and I am FREAKING OUT, because I thought I was really good at Spanish. I worked at a Spanish language daycare for 250 h last summer and I got my Spanish teacher to write one of my recs...and now I'm really scared that the 690 will completely negate both of those and the Adcoms will think I'm actually bad at Spanish, and that I didn't really learn anything from working at the daycare, even though I actually learned a lot. I hope my Spanish teacher wrote about me being really good at Spanish, but I can't really tell...I got really good grades in her class but that isn't reflected in my 690 :( :( :(

I'm really scared that they'll reject me when they see my 690...can anyone reassure me that it won't be an automatic reject? I know it will hurt me a LOT, and probably will get me rejected, but I just want someone to placate my nerves somewhat.

^^ "well, kind of" :) 120 points here and there.

Anyways, I hope it doesn't mean an automatic reject to you. I really don't get the idea of language subject tests when one can take them even if they are in his mother tongue. What is the point of taking Chinese if 800 is 70th percentile, or even lower?

But my score had upset me, I scored over 85% on a similar test here in the Czech Republic and such a low score is nothing but a terrible disappointment.

QR: Thanks, I have dealt with it but it still sometimes brings my mood down. It's just a terrible feeling when I think that I have invested all the money, time and energy into something and the whole process became a failure within 60 minutes...
