Weak Schedule, Mediocre EC's, Good GPA and ACT - Chances?

I am just wondering, percentage wise, what do you think the chances are that I will be accepted next year? I am planning on going into finance and I live just outside of St. Paul. I really want to go to Wake, it seems like a perfect fit, but I am not sure if I will get in or not. Here are my stats:

GPA: 3.94 W 3.85 UW
RANK: 32/216 (Top 14%)
ACT:32
-English: 35
-Math: 31
-Reading: 33
-Science: 30
-Writing: 10

Have a number of honors classes, but not the hardest possible schedule. Only will take one AP, American History which I will take the test on in a few weeks. This is proably the weakest part of application, cause I went to a public school for middle school so when I went into a private Catholic school in 9th grade, I wasn't able to meet the pre-reqs to get into the most advanced tracks for math and english.

My EC's are Weak Though:

-High School Golf Team (10-12)
-MN Junior PGA (9,11,12)
-Work at UMN Gopher Hockey Game Concession Stands to help pay for high school tuition. (9-12)
-Caddy at Country Club - Honors Caddy (9-11)
-Work as a Baseball Umpire at nights (11,12)
-MN Gopher State Traveling Baseball (9, 10)
-Peer Tutoring (11,12)
-Church Service Trip to help restore homes in N Carolina (11)
-Other various awards like academic letter, student of the month, bronze service award, etc...

I might get another summer job on weekends at Domino's or something to help save up for college. I am also planning on reffing hockey games this winter, but I don't know if that will be soon enough to go on my app.

Anyways, do you think I have a good shot at getting into WF? And will raising my ACT to 33 or 34 make any significant difference? Also, my school is really competitive and is one of the top schools in the Twin Cities; I don't know if that means anything or not.

Also, are you required to do an interview when applying?

Well, I believe your ACT is currently in the top quartile. Is your rank based on weighted or unweighted GPA? I believe well over 2/3 of Wake Forest enrolled students were in the top 10% of their class.

How many APs does your school offer?

You have a good chance…your schedule is kinda weak, ECs are okay, but nothing wrong. They are just normal and not uber crazy like most peope on CC.

Honestly, I think your best bet would be to do an interview, in-person with an adcom, if possible. This will especially help you if you are good at talking and presenting yourself. They weigh more heavily than other schools which offer interviews. ED will also help you tremendously. According to their Common Data Set, I believe about 50% of ED applicants get accepted vs the 32% overall acceptance rate.

If I had to guess…if you did an interview and did ED, I would say you’re most likely in. If you do RD and interview…I still think you have a good chance, but you need to rock out the essays and supplement! Overall, I think you have a good chance.

Rank is based on weighted. My school offers four APs but I was unable to get into three of them because I didn’t have enough pre-reqs to get into them.

Thanks!

Okay, well then the # of APs you have taken do not like that bad then if your school only offers 4. My school offers like 25, and I have only taken 8 and I was accepted RD with a merit scholarship…

Just a tip – answer all the supplement’s short answer question seriously. There is a few like “Define Cool”, which can be answered sarcastically, but the Admissions people I talked to said they were looking for deep and thoughtful answers…

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/wake-forest-university/635059-answers-short-response-questions.html

That should help with advice for the short responses.

I liked my “define cool” answer. I think it described me better than any of my other answers:

*Cool: Green fingernail polish. Altruism. The Cure. Quoting lines from my favorite movie, The Royal Tenenbaums. High-waisted blue jeans. Bill Nye the Science Guy. Tolerance. The Discovery Channel. Classical music. Independent movies. The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Mismatching socks. Acceptance. Otto von Bismarck. Tom Waits. New wave. Science puns. Honesty. Big headphones. Disney movies. Prince. Going barefoot. Steve Buscemi. Disjointed sentences." *

I think from that^^^ you can get a pretty good picture of who I am.

ANYWAY…

I think you’re fine. Your GPA and ACT scores win. 90% chance.

I think you will be a competitive applicant. Focus on your essays and get good recommendations. Don’t get any recommendations from people you are iffy about. A mediocre/generic recommendation is just as bad as a bad recommendation.

Yeah, I agree he has a great chance. Only thing lacking is his rank, which is a looks a little odd especially with his UW GPA.

My school sucks. There are way too many extremelly smart kids.
