I'm a sophomore in HS right now, planning for next year and the application process.
Taking full schedules with the most rigorous courses available for my class I'd say I'm doing great. Junior and Senior year I plan on taking an all AP + IB schedule of only the hardest classes with absolutely no breaks. The only questionable thing on my schedule though is my foreign language class, Spanish. Compared to all my other subjects, I appear to be quite average in Spanish, seeing as how I'll just be taking Honors Spanish III and Honors Spanish IV for the next two years. My question is, would this be a deal breaker for top schools even though I'm doing such rigorous courses in every other area? What's worse is I'm actually Hispanic, just happened to learn English first.

Lots of people of Hispanic heritage don’t speak a word of that language. Don’t worry about it. Would everyone expect you to speak Danish if your family name were Jensen?

As for whether not taking AP foreign language will cause problems for your college applications, that depends on your other classes and your projected major. Why don’t you sit down with your guidance counselor and have a chat about it.

If you’re taking all AP and IB classes, I doubt two honors classes will be a “deal breaker.”
