Weapon Development

I am having a lot of trouble deciding what major to pursue. After giving it a lot of thought I have come to the conclusion that my passions in life lend themselves very well towards weapon development as a career. More specifically I am looking toward both (what I see as) the future of weapons such as high energy lasers and robotics and the like along with modern weapons and dealing with ballistics and projectile development. I know it is a broad field but I hope someone can give me some ideas to pursue. Given that, what major(s) should I pursue in college and what college would be best for those studies?

As with many of my posts, I am not sure where this one belongs on the board. I couldn't decide if I should post it in the forum on Majors or in this forum since it is career specific. If it doesn't belong here then I trust the mods will move it shortly.

I’d start with public/private companies who deal with guidance systems (flight, missile), you can find those by digging around the Aerospace industry. You may want to look into the military as well. Looking in those areas should give you an idea of what type of trades they look for.

Electronics/Electrical engineering, chemical engineering, robotics, mechanical engineering, or computer programming would be some possibilities.
