I actually knew two different people who had swords at school last year (kind of funny, right?). One RA found out about one kid's, and made him go to barton to register it as a weapon.

When he got there and they saw that it was almost completely dull, they laughed at him and sent him home.

If the weapon isn't sharpened, then even if you reported him they wouldn't take it away. Most swords people hang on their walls aren't sharpened.

Unless he's swinging around a razor sharp, high-carbon, folded steel katana in crowded, public areas, I don't think it's a big deal. I think a lot of people have knives for practical purposes, and Asian blades as decorations.

If you don't like it, don't talk to him, as I said. I think that reporting it may be fruitless.

I think the idea of writing to Uncle Ezra is a great one. You don't give your name and you don't need to mention your dorm if you think giving it would identify you. There isn't anything wrong with asking about this if it makes you uncomfortable.

Wow can you guys not be complete jerks to her. She is making a thread demonstrating her concern and frankly you don't have the right to be so mean to her like that. She isn't crazy for being concerned...she could be wrong about the kids intentions with the sword...but it's still a weapon. It's not like being concerned about a weapon in school is without precedent. I agree about writing the letter. Just see wat happens from there and don't mind these arrogant people on the board.
