wearing a jacket with your favorite university's name on it

do you think that people who sport harvard, yale, stanford, etc jackets as junior and sophomores are being overconfident that they'll be accepted?

i personally dont think so. (ive been pestering my parents about getting me a cornell jacket :P)

but anyways, opinions?

Yeah (especially if it’s an H, Y, or P jacket).

personally I have a UCLA sweatshirt, but live in NJ and won’t even apply to any west coast schools. and Harvard is such a ubiquitous name, like “Coca Cola” or “USA” that I don’t think twice when I see a Harvard sweatshirt. so no, I don’t assume anything about the person.

No… I’d just think they had high aspirations.

I’ve been wearing University of Florida stuff my whole life!! Lol.

That’s the only type of sweatshirt we’re allowed to wear at school with a logo. (College shirts or our school shirts).

So no.

I wear my AU shirt all of the time and my best friend wears her Duke hoodie practically every day.

Ah fudge. My computer spazzed.

T-Shirt / Hat: Low Commitment
Sweatpants / Sweatshirt: Medium Commitment
Jacket: High Commitment

Think about it =]

I have two college sweatshirts and one college T-Shirt.
One is for Northwestern. I’m not applying there, but I wanted it because my sister goes there.
One is for the Sorbonne. It’s older than I am and falling apart. I’m definitely not applying there. It’d take me 3 months to understand anyone.
The T-Shirt is for Tuskegee. My father and sister went there. I’ve had it since I was 5 and I wear it to bed.

I know two guys who wear Harvard stuff all the time. Their parents both went there. The older brother was rejected and goes to UChicago even though he totally doesn’t seem the type. He was definitely over-confident.

I have a UCONN sweatshirt that I got for free, my sister won it in a raffle since she goes there. I will probably apply there (safety, in-state), but I don’t really care for the school that much. I do support the UCONN Huskies though!!

My school lets us where sweatshirts of wherever we get in (private school = formal dress code…) but I hope I can get a Georgia Tech one since that’s where I REALLY want to go.

I’m a rising sophomore, and my boyfriend who just graduated is attending Brown next year, so I have a Brown sweatshirt. I have had several people tell me to not count on being accepted to an ivy league school, that I’m counting my chickens etc when they see my sweatshirt, not knowing the story behind it. That’s why I don’t really judge people wearing ivy sweatshirts because sometimes there is a reason for it.
I really don’t think it’s a big deal.

nah i dont think so either. but i personally wouldnt get a college jacket/sweater until i get accepted into the school. i wouldnt wanna look at a UCLA jacket and feel miserable later realizing i got rejected -_-

When I see someone who isn’t that smart wearing one, it really annoys me. I have a Penn t-shirt and sweatshirt though because my sister goes there.

I think it’s weird when people have clothes for schools they have no connection to.

No, I just wouldn’t wear a university brand clothing/ material unless I was accepted there. Though some people wear the name brands because they are fan of their sport teams, or just their prestige etc…

How does wearing a sweatshirt with a school’s name on it automatically equate with them wanting to go to that school?
Maybe it’s their older brother’s sweatshirt?
Maybe it’s their father’s old sweatshirt?
Maybe they found it on a bus seat?
Maybe it was 99% off at TJMaxx?
Maybe… they’re cold?

I guess I just don’t pay enough attention to the clothes people wear.

I usually equate someone wearing university apparel with at least some CONNECTION in the school, be it interest or perhaps legacy.

For example, I wear my dad’s Wharton hoodie to school some times because he went there. I know this kid who wears all this college gear, but he’s only a freshman. I get perplexed, considering he only has one brother who could only go to one college…leaving the 20 different universities to brainstorming.

Me and my best friends are going to different universities.
I’m hoping to get into McGill, and she’s going to U of Windsor. We bought our universities sweaters and exchanged them. We plan on wearing them to our first day of classes. We’re getting beat up, ■■■■■.

And, no. As you can see/read haha, I have NO intentions on going to the U of Windsor (oh god no!), so just because they wear a sweater from there doesn’t mean they plan on going there. And if they do, good for them! I don’t automatically label them as cocky.

I don’t think I’d judge. When I see one- i think cool. For me, personally, I plan to buy a jacket of every single college that accepts me. Something to remember it by. But then I’m just crazy :]

Well, I’m actually wearing an MIT t-shirt right now. I’ve gone to their summer programs usually, and it is also my dream school, but the main point I wear it is just the same as every other t-shirt, just for comfortable wear and protection from the elements.
