Wearing college t-shirts

(assuming selective school) Is it showing off? Would anyone find it irritating?

If you have any affiliation with the school (going there, family member who goes there, attended program there, etc.) I don’t think it’s a problem.

I think wearing your college’s logo is fine. In fact I’m wearing a UMinn Class of '13 shirt right now lol.

It’s the people who have no affiliation whatsoever with that college, but treat it like they went there that bug me (we have a lot of those here in the deep south: UF, FSU, LSU, UA, Aubrun, UGa, etc…).

I couldn’t care less.

There are a lot of crew kids who wear “Harvard Crew”, “Princeton Crew”, and other high level college crew shirts. They aren’t going there, but it doesn’t bug me.

But really, I don’t care.

Well, I’ve worn an MIT shirt before, and even though I hope to go there, it’s not because of that, it’s because my parents got it once, and I have gone to their programs before, so it kinda shows what I’ve done.

the **** does it matter

Seriously? Does anyone actually care about this? I didn’t even know anyone would think it’s an issue. Doesn’t matter if they’re going there, someone in their family did, they support the team or the just somehow ended up with a shirt. People can wear what they want.

I have an MIT sweatshirt but ever thought of the fact people wear it for comfort? It’d be nice to attend there if I had the stats but I wear it solely for comfort and warmth. Though I do admit I was stupid to get a Princeton shirt just because this guy I was head over heels for is a freshman there. Ahem embarassing…XD

Haha I wouldn’t care. People wear random college tshirts alllll the time. Usually they have SOME sorta connection with it (sibling/relative went there, they just like it, sports…etc)

It’s getting quite popular right now because seniors made their decisions and know where they’re going to go and it’s an easy way to “tell” people where you’re going without having to literally tell everyone haha. It’s also getting popular among juniors because most of us are now getting serious about looking at colleges and doing college visits.

I personally wouldn’t wear a college logo in public unless I was accepted into the university, other than that I would just wear around the house.

behavior shouldn’t have to differ between those who are going to ‘selective’ schools
and those who are not

it’s arrogant to even ask this question, imo

I see people wearing Abercrombie and Fitch shirts, Nike shirts, etc. I know these people are too young to have jobs at these companies, but they wear the shirts anyway. Maybe the logo on a shirt means either 1) I like this shirt and logo because they make me feel good -or- 2) I haven’t done laundry in a while and this was the last thing in the drawer.

I wear a college sweatshirt to school sometimes because I like the school, I’ve lived there, and one of my parents went there. It’s not a very selective school. The sweatshirt is really warm and comfortable as well.

I personally think it’s kind of annoying when people wear apparel for colleges like Harvard, Princeton, or Yale thinking they will get in when they won’t. I know it’s harsh to say, but honestly I know these kids and they have absolutely no chance.

Yeah. I think it would be ok to wear the clothing if you’re actually going to go to that college.

I didn’t buy any college shirts during the admissions process because it felt too much like commitment. If I don’t end up going there, then I feel silly having the shirt.

I don’t think it really matters that much with other people though. Around here, there’s a lot of pride for the two big state publics. I haven’t really noticed anyone trying to be pretentious with their t-shirts.

On May 1, our school had a “wear your college t-shirt” day for seniors, because it was when everyone had to make up their minds about where they were going. I found it interesting to see where everyone is going in the fall, and to find out that 15 (!) of us are going to the same college.

I think it’s fine if you go to that college or were accepted. I don’t understand when I see sophomores and freshman wearing Harvard shirts though.

edit: we have one of those days too ^.^

I don’t find it annoying. I only have one college tee-shirt and one sweatshirt and both belong to the same school. I really like that school and hope to go there, so why should anyone else have a problem with it??
