Wearing high school gear in college?

I was wondering if kids ever take their jackets/sweats/t-shirts that have "X High School" emblazoned on them to college. Is this commonly done?

I do it all the time. And I see a lot of it too. I don't have my Letterman jacket at school, but I've seen some of them too. I don't see what's wrong with high school apparel. Should I not be proud of my background?

i wear my HS stuff when i hit the gym. Thats all.

i sometimes wear this old PE shirt that says "charlie" on it, even though my name isnt charlie. It originally was the shirt I used for PE, with my name on it, but the name faded so i just wrote charlie instead.

It's great. I get random conversations with people calling me charlie. They'll be like "charlie, can you do...or charlie..." and then they find out somehow or another that my name is "....", and then we become friends. It's happened with lots of people.

Im not in college btw, yet, but I will be next year. But pretty much whenever I go on vacations and wear it, I always end up making friends randomly with people simply because of some akward conversation about my name not really being charlie.

I wear my old high school shirts all the time. They're perfectly good shirts that still fit, so why not? I wear like my Key club, math club, prom shirts, senior class t-shirt, etc. I'm a junior, btw. Most people I know wear some at least occasionally. I see alot of "X Cheerleading" or "Y Field Hockey". It's not really a big deal here.

From what I've seen, the only thing some people think is a little weird are letterman jackets But you could probably still wear one without a bunch of people really caring.

I wear my high school sweatshirts from various activities (you know, the ones that say "Random High School International Club" with a nickname or something), both because I'm proud of my high school and, more importantly, they're comfy. I see it around a lot too.

lots of people do that, especially for lounging around and stuff

If I see you wearing your letterman jacket in college I will laugh really hard, punch you in the throat, and then laugh even harder. Leave that in your past with your pokemon cards and power ranger whitey tighties.

I don't see too many high school letter jackets here, except for when kids come on college visits. I wear my collegiate letter jacket quite a bit though.

I still wear high school clothes--mainly sports shirts. I still wear our 1998 State Football sweatshirt and 2000 state basketball t-shirt, they're still in decent condition and it's fun when people stop and ask how we did 10 years ago.

I still wear random t-shirts from high school and even a couple from 8th grade that are still perfectly fine. Usually it's to go to the gym though, and I would never consider wearing my letter jacket in college. Everything else is fair game.

People tend to wear old high school t-shirts and such when just hanging around the dorms, but nobody wears their letter jacket... that would be seen to be a bit silly. I haven't touched mine since high school. It's a status symbol in high school... in college it just makes it look like you're still stuck in high school ;-).

i think the only weird thing to see is the varsity (letterman?) jackets. i wear my cheerleading sweatshirts with my town and name all the time. and all the other random stuff i accumulated over the years. its no biggie at all. why not wear perfectly good tshirts/sweatshirts/pants when youre just lounging around or even being lazy to class?

I'll probably wear sweatshirts (for example, I'm especially fond of my "X High School Vocal Music" zip-up hoodie) and stuff, but I'll be leaving my letterman's jacket at home.

Thanks for the responses, everyone! :)

at my school, the trend is: freshmen's wear nothing but their college gear etc., but when you become an upperclassmen, you kind of don't want to look like a freshmen so much so you try to find things that will differentiate yourself from them i.e. wearing something that looks cool but isn't college gear. i'm a sophomore and i try to wear my h.s. gear whenever i can.

Interesting.

Another question: is it weird to wear a college sweatshirt from another college to your college?

The high school letterman jacket is tacky in college. Especially, if you're wearing one to an insert sport here game. It just makes you look desperate, i.e. "I was good in high school....BUT..not enough to get recruited!" I've seen it and I'm always like ***?! Lol.

Oh, and wearing another college sweatshirt is fine.

P.S. Another tacky thing is the overload of university attire. Ex. University hoodie + sweats + hat all in one outfit.
