I'm in the midst of packing for college right now, and everything I've read online says not to bring high school T-shirts because you'll look like a dork. But do you think it's okay to bring them for night shirts? I have a lot of shirts from clubs I was in in high school and I usually wear them to sleep because they're just baggy enough to be comfortable. Would that still make me look like I'm hanging onto high school or something?

No it wouldn’t you can wear them to bed or to the gym.

I’m not in college but I wear HS shirts to sleep too. They r really baggy and I sleep great in them. No one should nor possibly will judge you, but of course I’m just a HS senior.

You can do whatever you want. You can even wear them out to class if you want. But yeah, they’re great to sleep in. I do it all the time.

I never understand people who don’t have a mind of their own. Who would listen to what an article says?

“Hey mom!..I’m not going to wear long sleeved shirts in college because an article said that I would look weird.”

I’m speaking in general and anyone who catches offense to what I said, oh well.

Anyway, I brought my HS shirt as a bedtime shirt. I never wore it out outside; not because I fear that I’ll look like a dork, but because it’s a raggedy shirt.

I’m bringing all of my HS t-shirts.

I went to a k-12 school for eleven years. We had Field Day every year. Every Field Day=One t-shirt. They never gave us t-shirts that fit us. They were always super big. I can still wear my kindergarten Field Day shirt. So that’s 11 t-shirts. I then have two for band, two for Field Hockey, five for Cheerleading… That’s 18 t-shirts… and then I have one for Community Service, two for Latin Club… That’s 21… and then I have t-shirts that I got at different things around town that I volunteered for.

Point being… Those free t-shirts make up the majority of my closet, so I’m definitely bringing them. And I don’t care if people think I’m a weird freshman for wearing them.

Not a big deal.

I don’t bring mine, but that’s because I have way too many other shirts I want to have with me. I wouldn’t care if someone had high school shirts on.

Those articles are designed to make you doubt yourself. A lot of people may wanna bring their shirts either cos it reminds them of good times in HS or simply because hey, it’s a perfectly good shirt so no sense in not wearing it. They instill this sense of “oh, you’ll be a pariah if you wear it! but don’t worry we’ll tell you how to succeed!” so you keep on reading their magazine/website/blog. Very sneaky.

Long story short: feel free to wear high school shirts if you want, nobody worth knowing is gonna judge you for it.

Also, cargos are extremely fashionable.

AUGirl - I was in a similar situation. I made a t-shirt quilt. It’s wonderful.

OP- Heh, I sometimes wear a high school hoodie to class in the winter. No one cares.

I never bought any HS shirts and got one as a prize at some point. It’s around…somewhere.

But no, it’s not acceptable to wear a) HS shirts and b) shirts from other colleges. It’s especially sad if your HS shirt says something like class of 2006…screams you’ve been around forever and still haven’t graduated.

lol’d ^^^^^^

wow people actually care about this?

^ No… just advice columns want to make you think they do.

I have a bunch of hs shirts and all of my hoodies are from theater shows in hs. They still fit and work, why buy new ones? Seriously, no one cares.

I personally don’t think there’s anything wrong with it… I wore an elementary school T-shirt (a rather nerdy one, too, lol) to PE/Wellness class several times in middle and high school, and I’ll probably bring several high school T-shirts with me to college. I highly doubt most people will care one way or the other. There are probably always going to be judgmental people, no matter what you wear, because some people are just that way. But if it’s your style, then you should go for it and not let anyone tell you otherwise. Whatever floats your boat! =)

i wore a high school t-shirt once and I was nearly put in an iron maiden!

Nobody will likely judge you for wearing a HS shirt, but they will be able to tell pretty easily that you are a freshman. Same thing goes for wearing nothing but clothes with the name of your college on it. But really, who cares if people know if you are a freshman or not.

People who went to good high schools advertise it their whole lives. I see guys at the Columbia business and law schools wearing their Andover shirts and Choate hoodies all the time.

kinda… I’m a junior and still wearing hs stuff.
