I'm told it snows once a year. I know it flurried earlier (weirdly in like early November), but it hasn't gotten that cold since. This year was supposedly much colder than most years. And I would believe it. There was a straight week in the twenties; although this week it's been warmer, mostly in the high fifties, and even low sixties. Still not the Charleston "winters" I'm used to with seventies and eighties in the peak of January, but it could be worse. Could be Boston :P

I like the weather overall, mainly because I dress for it. I have leggings, sweatpants, puffy jackets, sweatshirts, warm socks -- the works!

It was especially pleasant through mid-October. When I visited in March for Decision Davidson, it was just starting to warm up, so it was still chilly at night (chilly enough that one sweatshirt and jeans were not quite good enough) but during the day it was beautiful.

ah i see i see
sounds like north carolina weather is a lot milder than i thought
thanks for the answer!

Sure thing! Yeah, it's overall pretty pleasant! Just come prepared....

Also, it has rained a TON here -- although apparently last year, it didn't rain at all the entire time. I think last year we were in a drought, but we're probably out of it now. In any case, couldn't hurt to bring a pair of rain boots, a rain jacket, and an umbrella with you.

hmm i will make a note reminding me to buy those.

I live one hour from Davidson, and I can assure you, it never snows in NC. I mean, it does, but it's really rare, and at the most, you'd see a couple inches. The weather in NC is wonderful though. Summers don't get too hot, and the winters don't get too cold.

There's about a 50% chance of seeing a major snowfall (6" or more) once during your 4 years at Davidson. The rain/snow line is often just to the north and west of Davidson. Beware of sleet/freezing rain.

We have lake Norman which according to rumor creates a Davidson bubble preventing any rain on campus (other than the rain that regularly occurs when we are about to leave campus). I believed this for my first three years at Davidson. This fall however... when it rained it poured. During one of these downpours a legitmate pond formed on the court. Yes is snows once a year, we are probably yet to get our 2 inches. If it does ever snow, go to the football field and play ultimate frisbee in the snow, an epic Davidson memory.

what is the average temp in the winter? im from the freezing midwest so im used to winter but just wondering if id need to bring out my down jacket or if a northface would suffice..?

According to weather.com:
-July is the average warmest month.
-The highest recorded temperature was 104°F in 2007.
-January is the average coolest month.
-The lowest recorded temperature was -5°F in 1985.
-The maximum average precipitation occurs in March.

Averages
January: H-51, L-32
February: H-56, L-34
March: H-64, L-42
April: H-73, L-49

May: H-80, L-58

October: H-73, L-51
November: H-63, L-42
December: H-54, L-35

This year was colder than most years. I'm from sunny, warm Charleston, South Carolina, so I was miserable at times, temperature-wise. But if you dress warmly, it's tolerable. And it's so worth it for Davidson.

Last night doesn't really count as snow, but it is evidence that you'll see snow about once a year.

Oh posh! There was almost an inch of it in some places :P
