Sounds very managable to me. I am about to go out and shovel for the fourth time since yesterday morning. And that doesn’t include my DH using the snowblower before work yesterday. Oh well, I count it as part of my New Year’s resolution to workout more!

lol glaw, we had a few flurries up here in north al. but its really cold for here right now at 13 degrees, unusual also in that it isnt warming up. usually if we get a cold spell it will last a few days and then go back into 50’s or so. has been in 20-30 range for over a week now. of course the flurries (less than an inch) caused schools to be cancelled and even though no snow today schools are closed again today due to icy patches on the road (no snow removal/sand/salt here so wait til it melts)… alot of the kids go to school by bus and they wont run the buses if any ice thank goodness.

We visited UA for the first time on the Friday before MLK weekend last year and it was record breaking cold (i.e. the schools in Nashville had closed that day because of the cold - 2 degrees.) The way it feels here today 57 is sounding like summer weather :)

Our driveway was covered with a light snow yesterday. The neighbor girl asked if she could shovel it because she wanted it to make a snow man. LOL (We hardly get enough to do that here.)

I sure hope the weather is not ugly on CSDay. That will certainly not show off Bama at its best. The weather here is mostly “blue skies and fluffy white clouds” - which can be deceiving because the temp can actually be quite low (so never look out a window in the window to guess what to wear.)

You’ll need to wait to check the weather later, the weather here isn’t that predictable a week in advance. We often get told we’re going to get X weather, and then we get Y.

57 does sound wonderful… its weather like this that makes me miss my canadian furnace…heat pumps just cant handle this weather as my electric bill will tell me next month!!

I

lol oops…meant to write…never look out a window in the WINTER to guess…

need coffee, need coffee…

Bought myself an anorak jacket at Penney’s this week in anticipation of the cold. Has a hood and similar to a raincoat on the outside, so I guess I’ll be good. Hope those buses are running for tours next weekend!

i’m sure by next week the worst scenario possibility is rain and even though it says it will, you never know, it may not… i would also bet that tuscaloosa would have some snow removal equipment as its a city… my reference to buses was up here in north alabama rural area.

Just got in from shoveling and falling temps. 57 degrees sounds heavenly. When we visited the day after Christmas it was about 45. Campus was obviously beautiful. I’m sure a little rain will not douse the energy at UA, especially after last night!

* i would also bet that tuscaloosa would have some snow removal equipment as its a city…*

I doubt it. LOL…Alabama cities so rarely ever get enough snow to stop traffic that they don’t usually invest in any equipment.

Even big Huntsville (which has 5 times as many people, a huge Army base, and is much more north) doesn’t have ANY snow removing equipment. It’s just cheaper to just close the schools and the Army base on the rare days we get enough snow to stop traffic.

The amount of snow we get is very light. just enough to turn the grass a little bit white (with grass blades still sticking thru). Any snow we get is usually gone by noon. This week’s situation is different; it’s cold enough for the light snow to stay. However, with cars driving on the roads, the snow on the roads is gone.

Having some snow flurries this morning.

If the weather really turns out to be 57 degrees, it will be great. The 20 degree weather, 9 degrees counting windchill, was in sharp contrast to the joy being experienced on campus last night.

SeaTide: I can only imagine the atmosphere on campus, even if school isn’t officially in session yet. Did you watch the game at the Ferg?

I had my scheduling off a little bit and even though the game started long after 7PM CST, I didn’t make it into the ferg before the main even closed around halftime. But the 50+ inch TV’s on each floor of my dorm are good substitutes. After they presented the championship trophies it was time to go out to the Saban statue, sing Rammer Jammer, and cheer as every car honked their horns while driving by.

*If the weather really turns out to be 57 degrees, it will be great. *

True…I just hope that if it rains, it rains either very early that day (like during the night), or very late.

BTW…for those who are having Honors arranging tours after Capstone…You may also need to call Honors and ask if there will still be trams running after those extra tours to bring you back to your cars.

I may be wrong but…I think that for CSDay, they have the attendees park in the fields that are on the east side of campus (which is another reason to approach the campus from McFarland Blvd to University Drive). Then, after parking, they bus you over to the CSDay event.

However, if honors arranges tours after CSDay is over, I don’t know if honors has thought about how you’ll get back to your cars if you’re staying for the extra tour. Ask them if arrangements have been made so that after your special campus tours are over, that you’ll be brought back to where the cars are parked.

:)

on the invitationit shows the bryant conference center is where you check and and you part in what appears to be a parking lot off 2nd avenue… (corner of p bryant and 2nd) doesnt look like would need to bus

Ahh…

I was going by what was done for UDay one year. I think they have more attendees for UDay. If there’s enough parking at that lot, then should be fine. :)

It’s been really cold this week, at least for here. Teens in the mornings and upper 30’s/low 40’s as highs. Yesterday schools were cancelled due to the threat of 1-2" of snow. No, Tuscaloosa does not have equipment to handle any sort of snow and the city/state practically shuts down. People panic when the word “snow” appears in the forecast. Store shelves are cleared out of milk, bread, batteries, etc.

BTW, we didn’t get any snow yesterday aside from some flurries.

Upper 50s will feel like summer weather after this week. It’s the coldest winter in these parts in decades.

The parking lot shown on the CSD brochure would be the commuter lot across from the Moody Music Building and on the other side, the 24hr Arby’s. It’s a very short walk and avoids much of the university traffic. Get on University Blvd. off of McFarland and it will be on your left. Note that when leaving and getting beck onto McFarland, you will want to go east, that ramp always confuses me.
