southern california weather is very different than norcal weather.

SoCal tends to be warmer in general average is closer to 70s, and have a lot of very hot days.

in the bay area, the average weather will tend to be a couple days cooler. Berkeley very rarely has days that are higher than 95 (definitely rare during teh school year)
Stanford and Santa Clara have warm weather and not much rain.

Keep in mind that SoCal is also full of smog and humidity, which you just dont get in the bay area. Smog is a big factor in the parts of LA that are not near the coast. and especially in places like riverside, irvine, and USC.

USC: anyone remember the scene in bowling for columbine.. its too smoggy in south central that you cant even see teh hollywood sign.

Humidity? Not really. Unless there is a tropical system moving up from the south, which happens only once or twice a year, the humidity is low here in San Diego. Compared to summer weather in just about anywhere in the midwest, mid-Atlantic states, and southeast, SoCal is not humid at all.

Smog can be a factor in parts of SoCal, especially inland, which is why I said near the coast.

Riverside is in SoCal what Sacramento is in the Bay area --> many miles inland and hot because of it.

Bay Area has good weather, but by no means perfect. SF is chilly, windy, and damp much of the time. There aren't that many days and very few evenings where one is comfortable without at least a sweater or windbreaker.

Thanx ellenF for your really helpful post .... and as for jab93 if you dont like the thread it would be better you don't post as your last post was rather rude as you must understand that many people including myself are international students who don't know much about the american weather....

We live in NJ and a lot of kids (increasingly) go to school in the Carolinas. They want to stay on the East Coast and want a change of season without that harshness of middle Atlantic or New England states in January, and they're out of there before it gets too hot.

Arizona would be too hot for me. 100/110/120 is too hot even when its dry. Isn't it close to typical sauna in your gym? ;)

Sam Lee, unless you plan to stay in Arizona over the summer, Arizona has amazing weather! From October through April, you have atemperatures ranging from 70-85 during the day and between 35-55 at night. It is almost always sunny too.

Yea, I did mean summer of course.

Arizona is beautiful all year round except for 3 months in the summer, so if you are not planning on school in the summer, Arizona is a great place to be. Winter months are in the 70's a lot.Plus there is a huge difference in temp from middle of the day to evenings. Even now when it is 100 midday, it is beautiful after 6 , and gets to be 30 degrees cooler, same with mornings. I still would never recommend a summer visit here! Our kids for some reason tend to love those Ca. schools though, and we certainly don't mind visiting them there!

lol, we must have been posting at the same time Alexandre!!
