How cold is it over there, and is it hard to get used to if you’re from the West coast?

You'll survive. Go to LLBean and buy a jacket. Seriously though, I think California is the 3rd most represented state, so there'll definitely be other kids to whine with in any case. I'm from Maryland where it's warmer (not as warm as the West coast, obviously) and it wasn't really very hard to adjust--the winter is actually kind of exciting because the snow is really pretty (at first anyways). It does get old in February, but it's bearable. Apparently, this past winter was really mild compared others--it only snowed a few times and it never got super super cold. Maine is pretty, Bowdoin is fun, and the winter is definitely a part of the experience so don't be afraid of it. LLBean and The North Face are good places to start shopping, though.

i'm from hawaii, but have been going to boarding school in PA for the past 3 years, and i am really considering going to bowdoin. the winter really isn't that bad, quite honestly i really like it. it is something new, and you can have fun outside (i.e. snowboarding, sledding, skiiing) and inside (i.e. boardgames by the fireplace, hot chocolate, puzzles, and cuddling). Plus, Bowdoin is such a great place and there is always something to do so the winter will be hardly noticable, well maybe that is a stretch. lol. where else are you considering.

Its only really cold at night. The highs during the day are only about 5-10 degrees colder than it is in NJ. But supposedly this winter was weaksauce.
