How is the weather during the school year? Is it really hot in Sept and Oct.?

I live in West TX and it sucks year round, but it gets tolerable around September. I'm sure South TX is the same except more humid.

It starts cooling down in Sept/Oct.

Otherwise, the weather is great. Especially if you hate the cold, as I do.

I've lived in Houston for the past 20 years -- originally from Maryland. September is typically just as hot as August. That's my worst month here, as I always expect it to cool down a little and it doesn't. By mid-October, though, the weather becomes much more tolerable. You can search on weather averages for a particular city (highs and lows) on www.weather.com.

The weather in February and March makes up for September! It's usually glorious then!

The beginning of the school year sucks, but the rest of the year is very moderate. My friends from the north love it - they love getting away from the cold.

It's hot in September, but everywhere in Houston has air conditioning- often I carry around a sweater/jacket to wear inside because everyplace is over air conditioned. It may still be quite warm in October, but at least you can wear whatever you want for Halloween.

I'm not a Rice student, but I'm from the Houston area, and when I came home for winter break, it hit 80 a few times and I don't think ever went below 50.

Once you hit mid/late-October, it's absolutely wonderful and stays that way until mid-April -- with the exception of a cool/cold snap (depending on your point of reference) usually around February.

By far, the worst weather you'll face is going to be during O-Week at the end of August. They say Houston has 4 seasons, like everywhere else, but ours are June, July, August, and The Rest.
