What's the weather like at Duke? Is it warm and sunny for most of the year? Does it ever get cold and snow? Are there 4 seasons?

Its cold right now...

Coming from Cincinnati, Id say the weather stays milder longer, but is actually not that much unlike the mid-Atlantic, midwest area.

It snowed this week but temperatures don't dip below 20. It didn't snow last year. It is in fact warm and sunny for most of the year. It was sunny (hot!) a few weeks ago before this snow :) Then we had some days of rain. And now we're snowy. In a few months it'll be nice again and then we'll have those delicious humid Southeastern summers

There are 4 seasons. Winters are short and mild, from Christmas into the beginning of Feb., with snow every now and then. (Sometimes there's a major storm and the snow stays on the ground for a week. That's a major event!) Fall and spring are wonderful with bright, sunny weather, beautiful leaves, trees, flowers. Summers are long and hot, early June through the month of Sept, and we count on A/C to survive.

ok this might seem sort of off topic, but is there a "dress code" at Duke? I mean, for the summers so hot, are there a lot of girls decking out in miniskirts and tank tops? at our school we're not allowed to wear any skirts shorter than knee length and absolutely no sleeveless shirts. but then again where I live we have winter for six months.

Yeah, I was wondering what the typical student wears at Duke as well.

A dress code at college?

Yes. The East Campus quad is always full of sunbathers once it starts getting warm.

well you can pretty much find every kind of style at duke...going to class, you'll see people who just rolled out of their bed and are in their pajamas trudging to the bus stop, you'll see girls who wear heels and look like they're dressed to go out, you'll see your typical duke hoodie + jeans people, etc. there really isn't a "typical" way a duke student dresses. it just kind of depends on the situation. when you wake up 20 minutes before your class on west campus starts, you don't have time to comb your hair and put on makeup and agonize over what you're going to wear.

When I go to class I just put on what ever is on my chair. Usually Ill wear a pair of jeans for 3 days and a pair of khakis for at least 2 days. Of course, I dont like to socialize in class, so I don't really care what I wear. I also usually have awful hair when I get up since I take my shower at night or right before I go out.

Plus, if you get all dressed up, it is more difficult to take a nap when you get back to your room.
