Weather?

What's the average weather like for Rochester during the winter season? I'm from Chicago and used to the unreasonable cold, but I was just wondering what I might be getting myself into.

This year the weather was just the same as the weather in Boston. If you go to the webcam on the Rochester website (go to the main page and search for webcam), you can see how much snow there is and what winter clothing people walking outside are wearing.

I'm not really familiar with the weather in Boston, but thank you for the directory to their web cam.

If you are from Chicago you will be fine! Here are some comparisons of averages (first number is Chicago, second number is Rochester):

Temperature:
Sept 65 62
Oct 53 52
Nov 40 41
Dec 27 29
Jan 22 24 (note that in Dec and Jan Lake Ontario keeps us warm)
Feb 26 25
Mar 37 34 (these months the lake keeps us cold)
Apr 49 46
May 59 57

I think our lake affects our temps more than Chicago because Lake Ontario is smaller and warms and cools more than Lake Michigan. Also, the prevailing winds go over Lake Erie and often over Lake Ontario before they hit Rochester (hence the more snow too), whereas Chicago is on the west side of the lake.

Snow:
Sept 0 0
Oct .4" .2"
Nov 1.9" 6.7"
Dec 8.3" 19.6"
Jan 10.7" 22.7"
Mar 7" 14.4"
Apr 1.7" 3.6"

I got these from this website: http://www.weatherbase.com/search/search.php3?refer=

I don't know how accurate they are.

Make no mistake, we have pretty harsh weather though. The clouds are what kill me. It feels like we rarely get a sunny day. The snow we sort of get used to -- until we drive out of here and we see how little snow everybody else has!!! (And we hear how much complaining everybody else does about that little bit of snow! lol)

february was incinerated from the snow?

Thank you weenie! That post was great.

sucks pretty much

awb: Ha! We just sort of block Feb out of our minds... OK. Here it is fixed:

Snow
Sept 0 0
Oct .4" .2"
Nov 1.9" 6.7"
Dec 8.3" 19.6"
Jan 10.7" 22.7"
Feb 8.1" 22.4"
Mar 7" 14.4"
Apr 1.7" 3.6"

However, it could be worse. You could be looking at Syracuse...
