weather!!!!

Ahhh okay. I know that this question may seem a bit superficial, but I’m from upstate New York, and I’d really like to know what the weather is like up there in Brunswick, Maine. I’ve never been there, and I just want to make sure that I would be able to handle the winter!

it can get really cold (single digits to teens)

Hi...

I work at Bowdoin. I went to college near Chicago, and my in-laws were from Buffalo. I don't know where you live in upstate NY, but my experience is that the winters along the coast of Maine (Bowdoin is a few miles from the coast) are pretty manageable because the ocean temperature rarely gets below 40 degrees -- not at all like winters in Chicago or Buffalo (I distinctly remember being in Buffalo for Thanksgiving and it was rare when there wasn't six inches of snow already on the ground there!). This part of Maine is gorgeous in the winter, and let's face it, students are on break from mid-December until the third week in January. Then they go on Spring Break in March, so how much of the Maine winter will you actually ever see??

In the interest of full-disclosure, I'll say the spring isn't great here. It goes from winter to a few weeks of mud to full-blown summer. But don't let any legends about Maine winters keep you from considering Bowdoin -- this part of Maine is gorgeous year round.

I heard that weather at bowdoin is actually more mild than in MA... so im sure it's nicer than in upstate NY.
plus, like swhood says, youre on vaca anyways for the rough weather, if thats what youre worried about.
personally i love snow so i dont mind at all
